Bill, the seeds were a bonus along with a hoya I bought off ebay from Doug Chamberlain. I love growing things from seed. It's always so exciting to see them pop up. Magic!

Recently I planted some variegated banana seeds, not really sure that I have room for banana plants in our house. I'll figure that out down the road. From what I gather, banana seeds aren't the easiest to germinate, and can take a long time. Who knows if I'll have any luck with those.

Want a great experiment? Buy one of those lotus pods in a store that has dried plants, like Michaels, AC Moore etc. Pop the seeds out, score them with a file until you begin to see some white, then plop them in a bottle and change the water regularly. They will gow.

2000 year old lotus have been known to grow. Lotus being dormant for 100s of years grow with no problem. In the summer, put the plants outside, in water and soil (mud) of course, and before you know it you'll have huge exotic leaves and beautiful white flowers. From then on, they will be winter hardy. I've done it numerous times. You do need to score them with a file though otherwise it will take months to germinate. If they're scored, once the water can enter, germination is quick. Make sure the seeds are in about 6" of water and you'll be good to go.
