Help! No curb appeal, no front door

Help with curb appeal! The front door is on the left side of the house. How do we make this look nicer?

What kind of look do you want? we have the same problem. entrance is on the side, garage on the front and all driveway no front yard. you could put a eyelash pergola above the garage and some potted plants. it pr needs more than that, but it would make a big diff for relatively little money.

To get to front door from car in drive, does one have to walk to end of drive to avoid having to jump up to sidewalk from the driveway? Is there enough space to add steps up from drive to walkway at the house end of driveway? That would for sure emphasize & define the location of front door. The immediate thing to do for curb appeal improvement is get the 3 collection bins out of sight! Two in drive & the green one by fence. Can’t see much of that left side but assuming yard up to fence is yours. Invest in planting appropriately sized shrubs - a mix of evergreen & flowering. Landscape always gives biggest bang for bucks. The front of house has nice detail. I think adding larger garage lights would give some pop to the lower half & balance with the top. Whats on right side - any planting area? If not, maybe a very large pot with evergreen in it sitting next to house?

I would also remove the bin(s) from the left side and do some type of plantings and or pots and some solar lights. Everyone will immediately want to go over to that side.:)

Very rough mockup- but for the general idea:

Or you could just do all the landscaping etc. mainly in the area where a fence appears to be, and perhaps alongside the house, around the front door etc - so that there is no obstructed view from that drive area.

Your house would be have better curb appeal if the eye was drawn to the left side of the property, where there is a walkway to the front door. There are some fairly simple ways to do that.

The bright white of the garage doors makes them stand out. If they were painted a darker version of the siding colour, they would blend in better and not draw attention.

The decorative elements around the arched window keep the eye focused on that area, which is not good. You want the focus on the walkway to the house. So paint that brown area and the white trim around it in the same colour as the siding. It's supposed to be a fancy decorative element but a bad choice because the house looks unbalanced with that peak as a focal point.

Agree that the wheelie bins should be elsewhere. But if that's the best place, hide them in a small structure. It's actually OK to draw the eye there, as long as it's something attractive.

Maybe add a very simple archway over the walkway leading to the front door, to draw the eye there and say "here's the way to the front door". Paint it white to attract attention to it. Add plantings in that area too. https://www.bhg.com/home-improvement/outdoor/pergola-arbor-trellis/arbor-ideas/

Paint garage doors same color as siding. Add raised beds with landscaped, tall shrubs and trees on the far left and far right sides of the garage doors. Add a planter between the doors with a fall narrow shrub. Landscape both sides of the walkway leading up to the front door. Add a trellis at the foot of the stairs to indicate "this is the entrance".

Here are some recent photos. I moved the garbage cans and added a blue planter. There’s not a lot of room on the side of the house. Still looking for ideas on what to do

Any thoughts on my previous mockup and suggestions to paint the garage doors darker and paint the curved window area to match the siding? If a pergola is too involved then maybe a fabric canopy over the door to highlight it. Maybe repeat the blue colour of the planter.

Power wash driveway and walkway. Add paver blocks to left side of walkway all the way up to widen walk. Where bins are transform that area to flowerbed with welcome decor.

Build a simple fenced box adjacent to your fence on the left for your trash cans. It is not possible to make an attractive front entrance through a row of trash cans.

If that’s your mailbox on the left, that area needs a good cleaning, and update with a nice small shrub there.

Reread bargainhunter’s idea from Dec. 2021.
