That's really nice! I really like the shade. Must look great at night with the light on. How old is it?

Agree a marriage....would like to see up close of the bottom....I suspect it's newer than the top and not entirely cut. How does the prism ring fit?w ondering if that is also added...in other words....wondering if the prism ring and that shade were added to a bottom that is newer and intended to have a cloth shade?

Linda -- I think the base is one of those cutglass lamps (and I'm not sure what era they are from although you seem to find a lot of them but they are pricey) and I think the matching domed top got broken and someone (either the person who originally owned the lamp or the guy that sold it to me) put the hurricane glove on it. And actually I like it better the way it is. Pics of what I think it was originally and a pic as to how the ring is attached to the base.

Is that picture of the lamp without the globe your lamp?

I believe your lamp bottom is one of those newer European cut glass items...basing my opinion on that shallow cross hatching that seems to be a hallmark of recent European cut glass. I think the top originally was part of a cut glass gone with the wind lamp and the ring with the drops may or may not have gone with it. But I don't believe the ring and drops ever went with the base.

You say it only holds a chandeliere bulb? Why? Do it it have a small base? or not tall enolugh?

It's not very tall so yes, only . chandelier bulb so it's more of an accent lamp. And yes, it could be newer -- I remember seeing those lamps in pricey gift shops a while back and now you see them in antique malls and their prices are pretty pricey. If that is what it was (and I do think so), I like the version it became rather than the version it was. Because of the way the ring is attached to the base, I think that is original to the lamp and they happened to find a GWTW globe that fit! Lucky me! For I think the lamp is much prettier the way it is. I've never really cared for those cutglass lamps.

Linda - I looked at it closer today and definitely the ring part is attached to the base. I truly think it was one of those cutglass lamps -- although perhaps newer whose matching shade got broken. Thanks for your help -- I'm not sure I could have figured it out without your input -- you are so knowledgeable about everything antique!
