What is the trim made from? The grout looks a little rough. Who installed this shower? You should not tile over tile.

Odd the way it was tiled. I would have cut the tiles and left the factory edge on the outside, making sure that the vertical pcs and horizontals are in sync, not leaving any gaps. They chose to custom bullnose [ok, but I would not use it in the shower] and paint. I do not think they used the right tile paint. Custom Building Products has the special paints for bullnosed tiles. Again not sure if approved for shower use [wet areas]. Overall whoever tiled it did pretty decent job tile matching and patterns and botched transitions. I would find out what their proposed solution is.

I have no idea what the product they used. The tile guy who is the builders contractor stated its the bullnose and he said this happened to another person recently. It is not wood but some sort of bullnose used for tile. I am not comfortable with tile over tile as that only seems to mask the issue not really resolve the issue. This is a new build semi custom home. I feel we need the issue resolved. I am not happy with the tile company from the befinning but either i use them for warranty or pay to have it done over

I should say that i think they want to tile over the areas where the bullnose is which to me would look a little off

^ yes, if you don't know, ask for tile source, manufacturer and all relating info for the tile itself, specifically the name/model numbers of the edge pieces which look to be coordinates to the tile line. I'd be VERY curious as to what that material is and if it is supplied painted (painted metal perhaps)? Get that info first. Very odd and unacceptable occurrence.

The builders tile contractor came back with a manufacturing resolution. its a Daltile Jolly trim that is peeling and the resolution from MFG is to go over trim with an epoxy coat on the trim only, we cant use for 7 days to allow curing this is warrantied 5 years. This was a builder supplied tile and trim. We picked the tile from the tile selections , hope this helps if anyone has same issue. Apparently the MFG had a “bad batch” . Not sure how i feel about the epoxy fix as i know that smell may not be pleasant

I would not accept it ... your shower components should last more than the 5 years warranty they are giving you.

Edit: just to clarify, that looks very unlike Dal jolly to me. Are there grout joints both above and below the "trim"?

That looks like they created the bullnose on the tiles on site and put some kind of paint on it to cover the body color of the tile. You can only create a bullnose on color through porcelain unless you are okay with a darker clay colored edge.

I realize this is an old post but it came up when I was searching. We have the same issue and it looks like we have the same tile in our new construction. The tile edges flake and peel. We finally got the builder and tile distrbutor to replace the peeling edges but after a month it is peeling again! I'm wondering if you have solved your issue? We don't know what to do next.

there is a type of tile paint that you can buy at Home Depot. I’m sorry I don’t recall the name. I bought it but haven’t used it yet.

I also have the same tile with the same bullnose peeling issue. can you tell me the name of the paint and whether it worked out for you?
