In photos, I seem to see elements that permanently cause visual structure, and yours are: door and 3 or more rectangles. I'd use the niches and forget a table. I like your planters though, whether raised on a platform or not. The flooring is interesting... :)

It'd be nice to see more of your home. Niches could have a touch of wallpaper... maybe a nice plant hanger in front of sidelight/ niche - tie it in. Pothos is easy to grow.

The first picture shows the front door and the sidelight. I don't know how you would be able to have a table there as there isn't much room, and the door will open right into it. Anything you put there is going to get banged up, and you'll be nicking the door on it constantly. The niche certainly calls out for art.

I like the wall color, but if the whole space is too plain for your taste you could always paint it a dramatic color. If you that, it should be a color found in an adjacent room. It looks like maybe navy or a blue-green would look good with your floors.

It looks like you might be able to fit a table where the plants currently are, however we might just recommend hanging artwork in the niche or trying some wallpaper in it. Here are some ideas that might help more. Please note the wallpaper and artwork.
