In order to get the best answers, we need to know what your style is and whether you have furniture chosen for the room already. IMO, if you have a southern exposure and the glass is not coated, I would start by getting a film applied. Otherwise your furniture and carpet will bleach in spots (not uniformly). Once you have a film you are free to choose any number of blinds depending on the look you want. Motorized so you don't have cords is smart when you have kids. I find with my two cats that I need to leave at least one section on each window open a foot or else they use their paws to get behind them so they can see out.

One comment building on others: you can do motorized not relying on batteries if you put an outlet by the top. But, this is expensive and batteries are usually easier.
