Modern, minimalist semi flush mount ideas

My bedroom ceilings are wayyyy to low for a chandelier (7.5-8 ft) I’m looking for a semi flush mount to go above the end of my bed that almost has a chandelier vibe. I hate the ”boob light” flush mounts, lol. Does anyone have some ideas/suggestions? I’ve attached a picture of one I love but that price tag is STEEP 😂

This would actually give off really horrendous light if you want to use it to actually light anything, which I don't really suggest for a central ceiling fixture in a bedroom, they tend to be harsh. I used the central lighting fixture in my bedrooms to clean or vacuum, period. Do you want it to be decorative only, for general lighting as well and what is your preferred budget?

@palimpsest really? Good to know. I definitely want it to be decorative but also give off ambient light. I’d rather not spend over $500. I found these too.. not sure if they would give off the same light you’re describing. Is it just flush mounts in general?

Neither of my bedrooms have overhead light, and I've never missed it. Are you certain you need/want that?

@Carrie B Tbh I’m redoing my room which currently has an ugly flush mount. i just figured it would be easier to switch it out then go through the process of getting rid of the hole.. i guess it wouldnt be that hard though. it’s a 288 sq ft room. do you think table and floor lamps would be enough?

What’s the style your going after?
Did you pick anything else out?

    Do you like this?

Here are a few Maxim linen flush mount lights that aren't bad. If you remove the light entirely, just put a cover on the electrical box. Electrical boxes are never to be covered up with drywall. (Your light is exactly like the one I remember from my 1950's bedroom.)

@wdccruise Yup this was my Grandma’s house before she passed so that makes PERFECT sense 😂

@HU-187528210 I think that’s a bit too big, however i saw something similar from West Elm that I liked! It claims to have a minimum hanging height of 11.7 inches, which would be okay I just couldnt go any lower with the 8 ft ceilings. The only thing that worries me is theres no shade and the bulbs are clear.. it makes me think the light would be too harsh. (I also know nothing about lights so there’s a good chance I’m TOTALLY wrong 😂)

And as for the style I’m going after.. Idk if you’ve ever heard of Maison Trouvaille? I’m not an interior design pro but I think he would be considered ”Nordic?” Very neutral colors, minimalism, lots of plants, natural woods, linens etc. Here’s some pictures of his work. Some might consider it boring, but I feel like my life is really busy and hectic I just want my home to feel peaceful and calm so I can clear my mind 😂

@Dani Rusek - what @wdccruise wrote about what to do with wires if you remove existing light but don‘t replace is correct. But, then you‘ll be left looking at an ugly plate on ceiling instead of a light fixture you don’t like. You already have a light so why not replace it? I do agree with those who’ve written they don’t use their overhead lighting in bedroom except for cleaning & I’m mostly the same. The extra lighting does come in handy enough times that I’m glad for having it. For sourcing have you heard of Lamps Plus? Check their site at this link for close to ceiling styles - here here’s a link Lamps Plus

Yes beautiful!! It’s a very calming. Almost monochromatic look.

I wonder if a capiz style light would work. Let me have a look

Ohhh ye!! I’m loving this one! Thoughts?

Also found these... like them also. But the capiz is my fave

    And this. I like both.

@HU-187528210 those are all really pretty! I found one that seems to be made of similar material in a semi flush style so it has more of the chandelier vibe I wanted but my ceilings were holding me back from. I also found a rattan pendant with an adjustable cord so I can get it pretty close to the ceiling with plenty of clearance underneath! I think I’m down to these two.. what do you think?

Honestly I like the capiz one best still.

I don’t love the fluted light.

I like the rattan one a lot!! It’s more kitcheny but I think it could work...

I prefer the fluted one for bedroom. Rattan is too decor specific & not the softer finish I’d expect to see in a bedroom.
