Help need advice

I'm thinking of a greyish flooring. A two tone wall. The wall paper grey, and the opposite wall grey and white on the other. The cabinets and countertops have to stay. ??

I’d wait until you can do this properly.
For now all I’d do is remove the popcorn and replace the light fixtures.

The popcorn ceiling may be asbestos so you will need to have that tested before removing it. If that is what you want to do. Also I would like to suggest that you choose one color for the walls and cabinets. Or do all the walls white and the cabinets gray or the other way around. But splitting the colors on a wall will make it feel a lot smaller in the area it’s already small. I agree get rid of the wallpaper for sure. It to makes the room feel smaller. Painting is a great solution!

Honestly I think that white walls and gray cabinets would look great. Best wishes for you and your remodel. MAE

Mae they stopped using asbestos in popcorn ceilings in 77. This is a 98.

Yeah I was going to do white, gray and black lvt flooring but reconsidering now.

    Hello Tanya,
Your kitchen cabinets and counter remind me of the ones in our clubhouse that were built in 1963. Especially the counter, like ours, it is so wonderfully unique. That is awesome that yours was built in 98. Again, best wishes with your remodel. MAE

Gosh Tonya, I was looking at the wallpaper again and actually if you like it and still might go with the gray and the white that would look really nice. The wallpaper would pull it all together. I agree your wood floor looks pretty good. What about replacing the current linoleum with something white? I’m sure you were going to replace that also. I noticed that you have the cobalt blue tile for the Backsplash. Is it on the counter too? What about replacing the counter and backsplash with a black one instead? I know you were reconsidering the black, gray and white but these are just some thoughts/Suggestions for your consideration. It would sure open up the room some more if you could remove that wall near the sink. It’s kind of an interesting place to put a wall isn’t it.

The LVT flooring would be perfect in the kitchen area.!

Mae the tile above the counter is a green color. I don't like it at all. I plan on replacing it but not sure on the color. Because I have no idea what to paint the cabinets. I think white would be to much with all white walls and appliances. But I'm not a pro at this. I'll add a closer look at counter top. I'm lost.

Tonya how do you feel about replacing the countertop or are you wanting to keep it? I would say go with lighter colors than what you are showing in your samples. It would be good to narrow it down between two colors to choose from. Right now there are just too many paint chips in the mix. It really makes it hard to make a decision when there are so many to choose from.
Is there any chance that we can get a picture of the room with your back to the refrigerator. What kind of budget do you have to do this remodel?

    Hello Tanya,

Here are some suggestions for your consideration:
Paint all the walls white Including the trim that is on the walls or remove the brown trim on the walls.
Replace the linoleum floor in the kitchen with a light colored or white LVT flooring
Replace the fixtures as suggested by someone else
Replace the countertops; with a white countertop and backsplash
Have someone move the heater register out of the center of the kitchen for you. That is a horrible location.
If possible have the dropped counter section near the sink and around the front raised to the same level as the sink’s counter. That will give you much more working space around your sink.

From there I suggest living with these things for a little while before doing anything else with the cabinets. Because once you’ve lived with it for a little while you may feel that you will want to replace them or at least have a sense of what color you would like them to be. It will also help you to find out if you like the cabinets layout and if the layout works for you before spending any more time with them.

Best wishes to you Tonya in your remodel and happy holidays from all of us here at May Day Designs.

PS regarding the counter and raising the dropped section. We understand that doing that may expose a part on the word face that will need to be touched up. A light sanding and a wood stain will help with that. You would be able to find a stain that would match at your local home hardware store.

Mae thank you for your feedback. I will be using some of the ideas. What light fixtures would you suggest?

    Hello Tanya,
Honestly our best suggestion for that is to go into a Home Depot or Lowe’s to see what they have and make a choice from their selection. We suggest some thing that will give you optimal Lighting. Otherwise choosing a light fixture or light fixtures is really a personal preference that only you can make.
    Best wishes, MAE
