Sorry but tht style of hood in no way works in your kitchen and honestly the layout for the cooktop is not good anyway. IMO since you are spending all this money why not have a more functional kitchen not to mention a much nicer island . Maybe post a to scale floor plan before doing anything more . Maple takes stain very poorly so I would rethink that and who is painting the cabinets I sure hope not a regular house painter .

do you have a suggetion on a hood type ? the maple cabinetry was sanded down professionally and doors taken into a shop for finishing. The island will be totally removed, made slightly larger and one lower level. It will be different wood, and stained in the dark walnut color. You think that doesn't work at all? appreciate your notes....

Don't spend money on that kitchen, as it exists, with that layout. Fix the lack of functionslity, and all the rest, or just leave it alone. 40K spent on it as a refresh is a 40K waste. It needs twice that spent, and gutted and redone.
