I don't like upper cabinets

I don't like kitchens with inadequate storage.

I went thru all my stuff and purged. I don't have uppers in the kitchen.

It took me almost 50 years to discover the joys of a pantry, I can see and reach everything. It looks like a standard clothes closet with bi pass doors. The money saved by eliminating all uppers was spent on drawers in all the base cabs.

I like uppers with some glass door cabinets to break up an expanse of wood fronts. But ultimately this is your kitchen and no one can tell you what will work for you. Based on how many cabinets you use now can you get by with fewer if your design results in fewer? Anytime you have open shelves or glass door cabinets you have to be prepared to display something artistically. You can't put food items on them or in them unless you decant everything into canisters. Also, while I don't have open shelves, I know other people have complained about open shelves collecting dust. Some people love them, some people hate them. At the moment the votes are running even for open/not open shelves, so there isn't a consensus. I'm sure your floorplan isn't identical to either of your inspiration photos, so you'll have to work it out in your space. Maybe a combination of the two?
