I know you didn't ask about lighting, but that has a great effect on atmosphere. Much better than ceiling light in this kind of room is a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner at chest height.

Whatever color you choose -- and I think it should coordinate with the colors in the rest of the house in some way — paint the bookcase the same color. Notice that’s what your inspiration photo reflects. Then, when you go to replace the bookcase items, edit a bit. Less will be more.

The rest of the home is the same color! We just moved in and Im starting small. This is what’s going on in the room it connects to.

Def agree on editing that bookcase.

The current wall color looks great with your carpet color and chaise. With light neutral wall-to-wall carpeting I like light neutral walls. I wouldn’t change the wall color.
The wall art between the window and door looks squashed between them. Consider moving it to a better spot. Btw, I love your bedroom lamps :)

I am working on a similar idea. I chose Charlotte Slate to go with a leather recliner. My space off the bedroom is much bigger, and I intend to paint just one wall the blue and the rest a Taupe.

Is yours an upstairs room? or do you need to cover the windows for privacy.

I love your inspiration photo. I would make it deep and moody, it's your space to escape. Good luck.

This could work in the room, but the pink rug IMO doesn't work.

@lyn yes, it’s upstairs but no need for drapes for privacy. I def want that moody feeling! That’s a beautiful color will look into it.

While I understand photos don't always reflect colors IRL, I like the current color too - it seems to go well with the chaise. The colors in this portion of the first photo make a nice palette, IMO.

The dark built-in seems to clash - what about painting that instead of the walls?

I would leave the wall color, and paint the cabinet the trim color. Replace the rug and add a nice table with a lamp on it, and room for a cup, etc so you could sit there, and read, or sew, or just have a cup of coffee.

I agree about replacing the rug. It looks too gray on the beige carpet

As for the spotted rug, I think the background color is too yellow to work on your beige wall to wall. Hard to tell using only the computer.

I agree with those who say your current wall color works with your chaise. I also agree that you should find a new rug that includes the color of your chaise. Your current rug doesn’t compliment it. Then, draw pillow colors from your new rug (Love those that BeverlyFLADeziner suggested!) for throw pillows and, perhaps art above the chaise. Your current gold framed piece is lovely but blends into the walls. It might be better showcased elsewhere. Like you, I love the chaise!

Your inspro color is great, but all green-ish colors blend with chaise. I would go with some one that pop up chaise color.

Or with coordinating (complement) color
