You need onyx there is no quartz that can be used for this purpose .

I do not know of any translucent quartz options. There are a number of quartzite options that would work. Iceberg, Lucent and Cristallo are three but it's dependent on the actual slab. This is Iceberg. You can see the light shining through the waterfall.

My stoneyard has a bunch of slabs displayed with lights behind them- I would start by going to a stoneyard in person to see what they have.

I believe there are some colors in Cambria that you can backlight. The best looking stuff will be natural stone though - marble, quartzite, onyx.
