Loooong hallway - help!

What should I do with this long hallway? The first photo is the view coming from the backdoor. The other two photos are looking at it from the other end.

Right now it's pretty boring. It's only about 3ft wide so not a ton of room to look at artUncertain about paint colors, artwork - any suggestions are appreciated!

I found some great ideas. Check out these in the link

I think adding a runner or two to take your eye away from the floors would be an good idea. Perhaps adding interest with some sort of wainscotting or any type of wall features using wood or whatever material and painting it. I would get some semi or flush lights as well.

I know there are loads of tips and tricks out there.

That wallpaper in one of the pics looks nice. Have you considered putting it in the hallway?

Our house has a really long hall way too. We will be remodeling our tiny master bathroom into the bedroom next to ours. My plan is to put a pocket door in the hall to break it up.

I have looked through many images of long narrow hallways. From what I have seen people use board and batten and paint it a cream or white and then on the wall above a different color than the bottom part. You could just do all cream I think they both loos good. I have also noticed that hallways like yours that have molding on the ceiling really helps as well.

I would definitely consider one or two long runners and take down the lanterns and use something semi-flush or flush with the ceiling. As Patricia stated it is helpful to paint the end of the hallway with a deeper color to draw the eye somewhere.

Here are some photos that show some of the suggestions.

I would change the hanging lights for some that are more exciting and would paint the hall a color that embraces and hugs, rather than puts one off.

I do love the look of a long hall with the ceiling and end wall painted the same dark color. Looks really cool

Olivia, something like this? However I would not use that lighting. I still think keeping the lighting closer to the ceiling would help. Obviously not hat wrack or book shelves and a different runner.

Yeah! The picture below is the one that made me fall in love with it. I would love to do this in our hallway except our ductwork is through the ceiling, making the ceiling different heights. But if we didn’t have that problem, I would definitely do this!

Wainscoting or built-in niches and shelves between the studs.

We might recommend looking at hallway designs. Here are some of ours we have done for clients. Please take note of the runners and artwork.

    Hi Joanie,

I would probably start by getting rid of the hanging lantern/light fixtures as I see you already have recessed lighting and add sconces instead if you need more light in the hallway as you do not get any natural light.

I would keep the color palette in light tones, whether it’s paint or wallpaper, to brighten up the space, or if you like more of a moody vibe, you can definitely do dark tones. This depends on your personal aesthetic as well as what you already have going on throughout your home to make sure it all looks cohesive.

I would also opt for large scale art work for the walls so it looks more proportionate to the space. Assuming that you are not doing any structural changes and can’t move that closet door at the end, I would consider replacing it with a sliding door or pocket door. Lastly, I would also consider a runner to make the space feel complete and add depth and dimension.

I offer complimentary initial consultations. Feel free to inquire about it. :)

Hallways are often a little award to renovate but I have a few tricks.

    Why not paint the whole hall in one statement colour (including the ceiling) and then cover to the walls in art. I recently did this for a interior project and it transformed the space. I have attached a picture below;

Is it just me that gets frustrated when someone posts a question and people try to help by searching for photos and posting them.... typing out ideas and so and so on only to never hear again from the original poster?

I am working on it! In the middle of painting it BM Simply White, and it looks much fresher.

The issue I'm having now is that it's an amazing wall for a gallery wall, but I don't want it to look chaotic. I want to be able to add art and photos and have it grow with us, but I prefer the look of clean gallery wall lines. So not sure how to reconcile the two!

How about a picture ledge? A friend of mine created a family gallery with her picture ledges(3 underneath one another). She is in her late 40's and has a letter that her grandfather wrote to his mother back in Scotland when he came to America.

How's that for growing with you - so special!
