Any ideas for these dirty grates?

I have scoured the internet and tried many remedies for the grates on our old Jenn Air cook top in our 60s home. I bought a few different products and can get about 50% improvement with scouring pads and a razor. They always look dirty though. They are sort of a grayish white and I can only find ebay replacements that are also dirty. The internet says there are not really food safe paints to use on it. Do I need to buy a whole new cook top?
