No adult wants to sit on a pouf.

You can get two additional chairs and put them facing the curtains.

Or, put the sofa on the wall where the TV is and put two chairs in front of the blocked windows, either the new chairs or the chairs you already have.

After that, then figure out where you will put the TV.

Get rid of that unit that is under the TV and find another home for that stuff.

And no etagere. They are just junk catchers and your room is not large enough for seating for 7, plus additional furniture other than the coffee table and end tables.

If your priority is seating 7 adults in that room, then you need to minimize everything else.

Your floor lamp takes up too much space. Get an end table and a table lamp.

No scads of table plants on surfaces.

No several candle thing on a coffee table.

If you don't have a wood-burning fireplace, get rid of the logs.

I don't care for either art piece, but I don't think the lower one even qualifies as art, it is just zig-zags of color that a first grader could do.

Don't purchase either one now, get your furniture first and properly positioned as well as the TV, then you know how much wall space and where. Then buy your art.

If you had significant art, then you could arrange your furniture around your art. That's not the case here.

Art is personal, so it doesn't really matter if someone here likes it or doesn't.

@chispa I love the original art piece. It reminds me of a tropical vacation wearing my panama hat sipping a margarita with my best pal...my dog, Just wanted ideas if the piece works there or will be moved back in the bedroom where it was before. Feel like it looks a little lonely there without furniture. The furniture was meant to be the issue not the art obviously did not make 'my" dilemma clear but appreciate any and all feedback!

@loobab I totally agree about the floor lamp and agree no pouf! I'm living in a rented condo I cannot afford to to spend money on replacing furniture to properly display art unfortunately. I am already outside my comfort zone with rent. Outside of the hidden window is the best part of my condo!

It wasn't long ago you wanted advice on how to remodel your kitchen.

Is this is just a temporary place? How long will you be there? If not long, then forget about buying new chairs.

Clearly you are on a budget.

Don't buy anything.

Quietly put the word out to only your closest friends who you trust that you could use some extra seating.

Also, is there a manager or agent in the condo where you live?

People are always moving.

Eventually someone will want to get rid of things and will be happy to have you take chairs, end tables, lamps, etc off their hands.

Does the condo have a bulletin board or can you put up a little sign over the mailboxes? Put up a note that you are looking for furniture if someone is looking to offload things.

You can also check out Goodwill, too.

I furnished places like that for years as a student.

If you have a dining room set and you have more than 5 guests, bring in the chairs from the dining room or kitchen set.

What makes for a good time for your guests is if you are relaxed, if the food is good and the alcohol is flowing and the conversation convivial.

Not what the furniture looks like.

And for sure, no man cares about your furniture.

If you think your hard chairs might be uncomfortable to sit on for an evening you can get inexpensive chair cushions at any discount store, even cushions for the back of the chair and just tie them on when company comes.

I would suggest buying or making inexpensive but colorful throw pillow covers for your sofa. Your room seems rather devoid of color.

Buy a cheapo pillow and a remnant piece of velveteen and tie the ends in a decorative knot.

You can find directions for these things online.

Now that you are putting up art, you can take colors from the art.

Drape the throw over the back of the sofa and one of the chairs and use the space under there for your books.

@looblab thank you for following me through my process. Yes the update on the kitchen was phenomenal and I thank you all for the comments. The new owners changed things as everyone said they would. Because they are in their mid -30s and millionaires .com in Seattle . I could not have been more proud of the multiple offers and the way the house showed and have no regrets (maybe one or two)

I said I furnished places by going to Goodwill, telling people that I was willing to take cast-offs, putting up signs, that sort of thing.

That referred to ways to pick up furniture on the cheap or for free.

Monetary insecurity is very rough, and it can be a prism through which one looks at life.

I like the art piece- it’s unusual and somewhat whimsical and would be a conversation starter. The striped piece is ok but looks a bit corporate to me. I’d be spare about putting anything under the art-maybe a very narrow table with a simple modernistic vase and flower or leaf, an art photo book(smallish)-Richard Avedon photos, or desert photos, doorways, etc., whatever you like. You don’t want to detract from the art or look fussy. The rest of the room looks great. How often do you have more than 6-7 people in? I wouldn’t furnish for an event that happens 6 times or less a year. Just bring the dining chairs in.
