You could bring in a touch of gold/yellow on the plant pot, via paint or tape or another pot.

And consider updating the fan to a sleeker style, or to a chandelier/light fixture. All dimmable. A chandelier would really be optimum there, if you can do it. Maybe something in black or black and gold.

And a few pillows for the bench, picking up on some of the room colors.

You could paint the walls white, if you’d like. I like the current color; it lends some nice warmth and interest to the space. But white could be nice, too - whichever you prefer.

There are so many options for light fixtures/chandeliers. As one idea, I thought something like this California Mission style piece could be elegant with your current setup and scheme.

is 'boho' not hippy dippy? What you have is modern or Scandinavian. The window seat overwhelms the furniture. The chairs look teeny tiny in comparison.

Firstly, what you have so far looks really pretty! What feels missing to me are some cozy natural textures, especially high up.

When I Google "boho dining room" most photos show either extravagant uses of color & pattern and/or lots of natural textures (especially if it's a refined color palette).

You have the rug and seat cushions, but I think something soft and flowy like airy curtains, or a boho valance would really cozy up the area, or a jute pendant lamp.

Woven wood window coverings?

Woven wood blinds and curtains. The curtains are tricky with your bench. Maybe some Roman shades like this:

Throw pillows with lots of texture. Maybe if you put large throw pillows on the sides of the bench, it would make the table look more even with it? Definitely get some with washable covers!

It's the mini-blinds that are the main problem. Curtains would not work, suggest getting woven shades. People sitting on the bench would end up leaning against the curtains and potentially pulling them down.

I like the rug, it fits the theme and is a good start.

And you want boho which means eclectic. To me, that translates into using more of your own pieces that are interesting and appealing to you and less of the "matchy-matchy" styled look you would get from shopping at Home Goods or a home store. Usually, these items are accumulated through travel, gifts, artist shows, etc.

You may not get the look you want for some time so approaching it as an ever-evolving process may be the best way to embrace this.

Get the book "The New Bohemians" by Blakeney and get inspired. Also, this boho theme should fit with your overall design scheme.

Your dining area seems to lack the color, pattern and texture typical of Boho style. Your rug is a good start as it at least has pattern. Would definitely ditch the blinds for a more colorful window treatment similar to what others have posted. Your table and chairs will probably work ok in a Boho style dining room as long as you introduce lots of color, pattern and textures with other elements. Am not a big fan of your wall color. Might suggest white to provide a crisp background for other elements. Would recommend artwork that is quirky and funky. Good luck!

As others have posted, the room doesn't seem to even aspire to "boho". The rug and the table could probably work but the chairs just seem to be run of the mill "contemporary" and don't read as boho at all.

As others have posted, you need color as everything there is beige. Paint, new window treatments, new lighting and decorative accents that are "boho" are needed.

Boho is technically short for "Bohemian" and my interpretation of that is ethnic and artistic like the people who were considered to be Bohemians as they settled in Greenwich Village and the VERY early days of Soho - for example. Perhaps your interpretation of "Boho" is different but I would think that Boho would still be incorporating that kind of aesthetic. FWIW in terms of "mass marketers" I think Anthropologie does the "Boho" aesthete much more than the other mass marketers like Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware or Crate & Barrel. Anthropologie has much more unique pieces even if they obviously are not one of a kind but mass produced; uses a lot of color and patterns and also has the kind of "ethnic" accessories that look like they might have theoretically been collected in travels or flea markets. I am not saying Anthropologie is "authentic" but that it is clearly aiming to a client base that is not enthralled with the Pottery Barn gestalt.

Before proceeding I would collect pictures of rooms that speak to you and then try to figure out what the common denominator of those are and then replicate those. That is how I did it when I did a gut remodel. The first step for me was just amassing lots of pictures that "spoke" to me without thinking to much. With the internet and other digital technology it is incredibly easy to do that.

As others have said, remove the blinds and replace with woven shades. I would remove the long green cushion from the bench and replace with colorful individual pillows. The long cushion overwhelms.

First reaction is the wall color. Your space is cute and your table/chairs/rug look nice together but the yellow walls look dated. You might be able to get away with the blinds. I'd do white walls. Maybe take down the blinds and wash them until you decide on new window treatments. Recover the bench cushion to tie into the rest of what you got going on. I think boho can go either colorful or neutral like you having going with the cream/black.

Maybe paint the walls white, add gold accents, and update the light fixture! Other wise I think you have done a great job with this room! ;)

As a contrary opinion, I think the warm light yellow paint is totally fine for a boho room, especially if it's a color used throughout the house/kitchen ;) 



I did also think you could layer the rug. A larger jute rug under that one would look cozier (see the layering in the last pic) and add another earthy texture, along with a new light and pillows.
