Help! Maroon & beige bathroom

last modified: 3 years ago

Initially I wanted to rip out this bathroom and redo it, but I know there’s potential here I just need some help with envisioning it! The walls are redwood planks so I’m not really into wallpapering them. Other than that I’m completely open. Please share you ideas on how I can save this bathroom

Well, it is a serviceable bathroom totally lacking in today' aesthetics.

What is your budget? Do you plan to do all/any work yourself?

Is that a recessed medicine cabinet? Better picture of the lighting and entrance area would help

I would paint the walls (or at least one of them) the maroon colour. About 9 yrs ago, a designer suggested I paint my bathroom burgundy and I thought she was nuts. I did it anyway, put a chandelier above the sink and a big mirror there as well. I love it. The red enhances my skin tones. It has sandy floor and wall towels in the shower, white porcelain sink. I call it "my jewel box". Who cares if it is "in"? Be prepared for the several layers of paint required, though.

At the very least new countertop and, maybe, sink if you don’t like the current one. Tile countertops are just too hard to clean. But frankly I would put in a freah coat of paint and save money for a complete re-do.

I like the poster that said she painted the bathroom maroon and who cares. Ok so it isn't 'on trend' I bet it isn't boring. I don't know where you're at but you could have fun painting it navy and do the whole 'americana' look. You could also find some outrageously fun wall paper to bring out the maroon and do a romantic vintage look. I can't tell if the mirror is a recessed medicine cabinet or a flat mirror. If it is a flat mirror add a frame to amp up the 'look' once you've chosen it and added a light fixture. Your bathroom is crying out for personality. Have some fun with it!

Start with a good thorough cleaning of the tiles. I’d put down a white floor, paint the walls a pale gray and paint trim white. Paint the vanity gray and replace the hardware and faucet to brushed nickel. Maybe a new metal/silver mirror. Can’t tell if the medicine cabinet is recessed. Add a funky shower curtain.

New vanity, a shower curtain to cover the shower, clean the floor grout. You'll then have a pretty blank slate with minimal work involved.

Thanks for the tips.Yes, the mirror is recessed and the vanity light fixture is a boring plastic bar fixture, so I’m planing to change that out. I’m going update the fixtures to brushed nickel. I’m in Hawaii so I thought including an art print from a local artist could be fun. I’m digging punkyaloha’s colorful work at the moment. Do think any of these could work?

Art... You need art to add a bit more color. The focus will be on the art you choose. Make it large and place it above your toilet. Some inspiration below.

Change out your faucet to match your shower finish. Can't tell from your picture...Is the vanity painted. If so, paint mirror to match.

Keep it simple on the rest of your bathroom. Get a solid color shower curtain, runner for the floor, and towels all in the same color.

so sorry, I did not see the art you love.....we may have been posting around the same time.

Ha! Didn’t realize the tiles were beige. So I’ve changed my opinion on what I posted earlier. I’d still go with new flooring and painting the vanity.
