Need more info. Do you need a seat in this entry? What budget are you thinking? Is there a ceiling light? How high is ceiling!

That’s a lovely staircase. The staircase and the floor are fighting with the purple-y wall color though. I would paint the walls a soft warm color and add a charming upholstered arm chair (in a muted green) with a very small side table, just big enough for a lamp.

Thank you, I will try to take better photos. The wall color is grey. It depends on the lighting, in the morning it looks light grey and much darker in the evening.

I’ve always liked the look of a table, chair, and lamp for when the area faces the front door like yours. Perfect for a seat if someone is taking off footwear, light for coziness and ambience (especially from outside, through your glass doors), table for keys, etc. And looks inviting and welcoming.

ETA: And a rug would look nice. :)

It’s gray? Your floor and staircase are fighting with the gray paint.

Would love to hear suggestions for paint color that would go well with the wood floor and grey carpet ;)

A curved bench coupled with a small table, a throw and a grouping of mirrors would be lovely and functional. A round rug would further enhance the space. Changing the wall color is huge job with staircase and 18’ ceiling. So I would use decorating first.

You could add round rug and coordinate a throw with it. A blue gray color works too.

Do you want to update your style or keep a traditional kind of country look? We can find pieces to suit any style. I see some traditional pieces I. Entry and all the oak is traditional. So many
    Possibilities.

This Houzz photo has wood colors similar to yours - I don’t know what this paint color is but it looks good. Is it a very pale gray?

I can help you select new paint color if you wish. Can you tell me the existing paint brand, color exact name and color and finish on your walls and trim? Impossible to tell from Internet Thanks.

Thank you. I would really like to change the oak, but that would be very costly.

The paint color is Benjamin Moore (Nightingale) low sheen. The trim color is white but do not know the exact name or finish. Some of the photos the wall looks purple.

I was also thinking maybe a new light fixture for staircase.

I do have a couple newer pieces that I purchased a few years back. Chair & small table that may look ok. I do like the curved bench idea.

I usually have a large plant to fill the space. Love having a large Christmas tree with clear lights but when the tree comes down it looks so empty.

What if we painted or stained the railing black and painted walls an offwhite? What pieces do you have? Post photos so I can see if they might work in this space. Here are a couple inspirational photos.

If you go with black and white theme then stick with that in this little vignette.

Something like this. Keep it very simple. It would be relatively easy to stain or paint your railing. Leave rest as is. Just too hard to tackle the whole staircase.

I would paint the bottom newel post black too. I just grabbed this photo and pasted it into your photo.

This would refresh your entry and give it new look.

Then add rug with black and light tones and possibly a touch of color.

You might need two rugs. One rectangle shape at doorway and a round in the grouping.

Gray would integrate the carpet on the stairway.
