Find the most expensive and best trained fabricator in town. Be willing to pay $125 a square and up. And face that it is not repairable if you chip an edge.

Get Roberto Colonatti's porcelain fabrication and installation manual, give it to your builder, and make sure his fabricator follows it religiously please.

Many tile manufacturers now offer porcelain slabs, some even offer them in different thicknesses for different application (thicker for counters and thinner for shower walls). There are many posts on the building and kitchen forums about issues with porcelain slab counters. You might want to look at those before you make any final decisions.

How did this work out? I am in love with terrazzo countertops, but the ones I want are not available in my area. I can find 48 x 24 tiles from same manufacturer in same material, so I'm wondering if I can make that into a countertop? My fabricator will NOT do it, says I need a tile person. These are 1/2" thick large format tiles.
