I am getting quartz countertops installed on an 87”x53” island this Friday. The countertop will be supported by one row of base cabinets along the 87” side - so 24” of depth will be supported by the base cabs and there will be a 29” overhang supported by two 4”x4” thick posts and a frame under the countertop connected to the cabinets. At the start of my kitchen remodel, the woodworker my GC referred told me he’d use temporary support so the countertops could be installed, and once his schedule freed up, he’d install the finished legs. Fast forward to yesterday, my template was taken and my countertop vendor said the finished legs had to be in place prior to countertop install to avoid the risk of breaking the quartz.

Woodworker feels pretty confident that installing temporary support (four 2x4 walls) around what would be the frame and legs, sliding in the finished product and securing it, and gently cutting the temporary 2x4 walls mid-point (so there’s no wiggling that could damage the countertops and they fall downwards instead) will work.
