Okna window quote

last modified: 4 years ago

Hey gang, I'm trying to get a sense of whether the quote I have for 20 Okna 800 windows is in the right ballpark. Any feedback is appreciated.

As is typical, I'm having sticker shock, but I've not looked into windows in over a decade. Hence this sanity check. The quote I received is $29,400 for the following windows:

  • (6) 36 x 68" Okna 800DX EnviroStar double hung window
  • (1) 82 x 68" Okna 800DX EnviroStar twin double hung window
  • (2) 36 x 79" Okna 800DX casement (picture) window
  • (11) 36 x 55" Okna 800DX EnviroStar double hung window

These are all quoted as pocket installation. Does that seem reasonable from a quality Midwest installer?

On a related note, I was told the Okna 600s and 800s were the same price. That surprised me. Does that sound right?

Sticker shock is common these days. The price of everything is escalating quickly, with no end in sight, it seems.

The pricing doesn't seem so high that it raises alarm bells to me. That's a top tier vinyl window and contractors who offer it are typically going to offer a more detailed installation as well.

The 600 is less expensive than the 800, but it's not by much. Your dealer may just prefer the 800 series since it's a more robust profile, and has the nicer lift handles. All in all, if you feel confident in the contractor, you're getting one of the best vinyl windows in the industry.

That is normal pricing especially in this environment. Thats the pricing I have been seening for a high end/ ultra efficient window such as the Okna 800 although a tad on the lower side believe it or not. As to his 600 and 800 pricing, its probably more of ” a volume type thing”.

Not outside the norm, the difference in 10 years is shocking. Ive seen much worse windows for much more. If there are any upgrades like woodgrain, grids, painted exteriors, tenpered glass, hardware hardware, etc, that is something to consider too.

Some good pricing there. Woodgrain amd colors definitely add to costs as fridge said.

Sticker shock is pretty universal these days. I would not be lying when I say that we get AT LEAST one price increase notification, per day (on average). It's nothing short of bonkers out there in the materials and inflationary world.

To your question, pricing is well within the normal range for a quality window and installed by a company that has market history and presence.

On the pricing note, they are definite, from a materials standpoint, different costs to the vendor. That said, they could be concentrating more of their volume in a given model which can help them mitigate that cost differential. Just depends.

fwi, almost every window company I know of is getting another large price increase February on top of the one everyone just received. Inflation is a huge issue and its affecting every other industry as well. We have given pricing to customers in Decemeber but those estimates are now void and need to be re priced to reflect the new price increases. I cant even imagine how much it costs ro build a new home with all the price increases in lumber, concrete, roofing, sheet rock, windows, siding, copper, and everything else.

    Welcome to the new world.

William, you forgot about the labor increases. I'm going to restrap a fallen sink, a job that takes one of my guys just over an hour to do, for $750.00 which is my minimum. I guarantee the granite fabricator who referred him to me was afraid to charge that much.

I hear you loud and clear Joseph, its a big issue for everyone.

I‘d consider getting a couple of more bids.

Thank you for making me aware. Okna rep coming today for me to sign contract. Two price increases since my quote in November. I need to lock it in now before it gets worse.
