@Nicholle Taylor I did’t read that DH not wanting to replace vanity as @arcy_gw notes - only that he isn’t enthused about a full ripout of room - which no one here is suggesting! Is he on board with a new vanity & sink - especially since it would be more functional? I hope so as my view is that piece is the most discordant item in that great little bathroom! 😊

Husband is def on board for changes such as vanity, even floors...haha! Just not tile!

I'd be tempted to find a great wallpaper for the upper half of the walls (maybe skipping the shower, heh). I usually hate these vintage baths, but yours is really great! Could do something bold, with additional colors, or quieter with a bit of contemporary flair...

@Nicholle Taylor I love your floor too & wondered if it’s original & if it’s marmoleum… I do like the sinks @Jilly shows but a style like that won’t solve your under sink storage issue or give you more counter surface. Nor will it address the laundry chute between the sink & toilet. You asked about vanity color - my thought is white for both cabinet & counter & of course sink. Or, maybe a counter with slight veining - marble look but not marble. Looking at your pic of current vanity & laundry chute cabinet - is that cabinet original? If yes, then maybe you want to keep it & match color? Also if yes, measuring out size that will fit may direct your decision of vanity choice….

I'd put in a 1940s style white pedestal sink, but you have to think about what to do for storage.

@Jeff, I hear ya. I love that look too. But this is my main bathroom. I'm a girl with allot of products and stuff....lol. 
That would be very difficult. Plus, I need to hide the laundry shoot. Either by a larger left side sink vanity or cemter vanity with matching small cabinet.

If it's in the budget, I might see about having a simple custom vanity made that has a step back on the sides that could incorporate the laundry chute into it. I think you have to be careful to not put in too big a vanity so you leave the area around the toilet with enough space. It is such a wonderful older bathroom. Thanks for saving it!!

Ok,you got me thinking something l ike this with a small ser back cabinet of even a basket to cover my laundry shoot.

@Nicholle Taylor Hmm - yes, very nice & period looking but what about storage? A basket covering laundry chute sounds like a temporary fix - is the chute a hole in the floor (the one my parents had was so I can’t visualize anything else). Seems like if chute not hidden inside a cabinet it would need to be framed out somehow & have a lift top or something for safety.

Its hard to tell but their is actually a large built in wall cabinet. Larger than any vanity would provide.

Is the little cabinet to the right of the pedestal sink the actual laundry chute door or is it a cabinet standing in front of the laundry chute door?

That’s a great feature for sure! How deep is it? I’m guessing you need to take care to make sure no vanity top or light fixture impedes the swing open path of the door. I’d consider that when changing out light fixture - if it can’t be raised to above the door height, maybe a light that doesn’t protrude into the air space quite so much would both look better & function better. Is that little cabinet for the laundry chute original to house? I’m liking it more, the more you show of it. Maybe there’s a sink like this one you just showed & that Jinx showed you which will fit into space & allow that laundry chute cabinet to stay?

I love the ceiling light . We have it in all our 1910 bathrooms . I also have it in the sunroom and the mudroom. Look on Etsy for wonderful light fixtures. I got so many there when we redid our current 1910 house.

Beautiful sink . yeh they painted a lot of the grout black . I like a plnk and black retro bathroom but to use a brush and paint the grout in places is stupid. Anyway don’t get ne started with all the stuff we are going to have to correct. I like BM Simply White . No undertones it is pure snowy white. All my trim inside and out is this color.

Hmm - faucets should be a style that complements sink frame & has the same finish - chrome? Also not fussy to complement the new light fixture….

Yay for rehabbing this beautiful vintage bathroom and great vanity choice! Can you replace the light fixture with something period and get some art in there?

Thanks @KW. We found a faucet to match as close as possble to what was in the shower from 1940s. Simple, but has a splayed base.

Setting the sink in place. Haven't hooked it up yet......because everyone knows in a 80 year old house, things never go as planned!

But the sink in place is so beautiful! And just look at that neat little cupboard that hides a laundry chute!!

Well, 18 hours of pipe work, and 200$ of chrome....this is what you get when your husband builds classic cars for a living...lol

Thank you! We were able to salvage the old little cabinet with a fresh door, paint and some trim. We contemplated replaying but everything looked to modern.
