Oh how beautiful! I want to replace my Star of the Republic with Jesse Hildreth, but can’t locate one in stock. SotR only gives two flushes a year here in SoCal and goes absolutely dormant like a David Austin in the winter. But my teas Monsieur Tillier, G Nabonnand and Mrs Dudley Cross have been blooming all winter. Does Jesse Hildreth have fragrance? GN is powerfully fragrant. MDC and MT are mild and moderate fragrance. Marie Pavie bloom top center, blush roses are GN and whites are MDC picked two days ago.

@Stephanie, 9b inland SoCal "Teas" in general, stink to my nose. I tore apart all of those blooms, exposing MUCH oil and alcohols and the smell from the huge bowl of parts was not pleasant to me. There was the "Tea" bitterness combined with "green" and an almost chemical stench. I don't spray nor fertilize so whatever it was, it was Jesse. Of course, to other noses, it's likely to be the most divine perfume ever, but not to mine.

And I have a very limited range of things I can smell. The "Tea" fragrance generally isn't one of them. I'll take a random sniff, but of course, after days of shrieking Santa Ana winds, there's likely not much.

I will be most happy when I get this rose! So beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
