My Neptune really gets pounded by water pouring off the roof in this spot and you can see lots of frost-damage... bad spot for sure. Interestingly, I notice that the leaves of my Neptune are wider than what everyone else is showing...

Undertheoaksgardener, The Nigrescens at your MILs home is pretty much the ideal goal, I think. Good form. Mine was dwarfed, splayed and yellowed from too much sun. Next year!

Mosswood, thank you. She is proud of that one. I bought it for her from Glenbrook (good sized plant) after failing to convince her to buy the more readily available Tenryu or Krossa Regal. After seeing how lovely hers grew, I bought one (teeny from another vendor) for myself. Hers does get yellowish from the morning sun, but does not flop or scorch.

Good to see full-size Night Before Christmas. I once had a nice one until I moved it. It's on it's fourth home and still looks like a mini. Shouldn't have messed with it!

Mosswood, I think my Neptune has some wider leaves, too. Placement? Age? Idk.

Lisa/sandyslopes beautiful Neptune. The holes are deer prints distorted by rain. We had an extremely dry summer so when it did rain I got a lot of dirt splashing up on leaves too. I need to mulch the whole area where I did the redo.

It is interesting to see the differences in leaf width and it would be interesting to know the age/placement. Saija & Shadow have full plants with narrower leaves. I do see a wider leaf on yours Shadow.

My Neptune is maybe 8-9 yrs old. But it struggled with tree roots. I moved it about 3 yrs ago and it has been looking better, So maybe the narrow leaves will widen as it matures ? As well, I don't have a long growing period as most of you. I still have snow covered beds in May. My beauties only emerge late and they go dormant in mid Sept. Many factors contributing to the coloring and maturity of the Hosta.

peren- I do see the larger leaves. Interesting to see next season what it looks like.

My Neptune is just 2 years old, but I purchased it from Hornbakers and they send gallon sized plants for the price everyone else charges. All of the plants I’ve received from them are large and healthy.

Can we have one more Neptune? I never knew it was so popular.

Neptune was one of my first purchases back in 2016. I wonder if there are two different variants out there or if it is just a maturity/climate thing with the narrowest leaves being somewhat of an optical illusion with the leaf being more folded so it appears more narrow. I like the soft green color it emerges with before the leaf turns blue.

Always thought mine had a broader leaf, but this pic before it turns completely blue looks more narrow although I know the leaves are broader than they look here.

I do like and bought it especially for the blue look, but we've seen enough great pics of that already.

I took a ton of pics trying to capture Navajo flowers this year, but its a great looking Hosta even without the flowers. I grow this in full sun but it doesn't seem to care. I ordered a Geronimo this year as I think there may be something to Van Wade's Indian series. (Geronimo is a cross between montana Aureo and Sea Drift, how can I go wrong?).

I love the bright yellow Night Shift maintains in this shady location although it was even brighter yellow (without going white/parchment) when I bought it in 2018 grown in a greenhouse with shade cloth. I think Van Wade used 50%, but I'm not sure. Anybody out there know what he used?

I love the uprightness of nigrescens.

Regarding Navajo, how much sun do you have it in? I need good sun hostas…..love the flowers!

Sun probably hits it by 10:00 AM and doesn't go away until it is near setting and no shade in between. Geronimo looks to have exceptional flowers too.

Thanks for the funnies Paula! How did you know that's how I tell a story? My husband says I give too many details and take too long, but he doesn't realize that he is just as bad!

I only have 1 "N" and it is Neptune which is growing in a pot.

But I also took a picture of it with Joy Ride. Unfortunately the picture was taken late in the season (October). But it is interesting to see the color difference and difference in shape.

Interesting comparison with Joy Ride. Assuming Joy Ride is on the left I'm a little surprised it lost the blue before Neptune. I'll have to pay more attention this year, but I always thought Joy Ride stayed blue longer. Its greatly dependent on exposure and while my Joy Ride gets more direct sun (just a couple hours until noon) my Neptune gets high dappled shade most of the day. Joy Ride is probably more protected from rain being close to the house and porch which also helps it stay blue here. I looked for some late season pics but nothing after early July and they both still look blue.

Laurie, I'm glad that's not a tunnel! At least this time the deer walked over the hosta.

steve, I like the early pic of Navajo with the deep veins and wavy edges. Flowers are nice, too! I'm not familiar with that series of hosta.

nhl, good pic to show the difference between Joy Ride and Neptune. I think Joy Ride also looks like Waterslide, which is just a little smaller.

Steve, I can't say for sure whether these pots got any sun, but they wouldn't have gotten much, if any. My picture taking wasn't that great last year---I went back to find I didn't take an earlier picture of Joy Ride to compare with the earlier picture of Neptune.

Sandyslopes, I do have a Waterslide, but no picture at all of it! Mine is also smaller. Would be interesting to see all three of these together in a picture, and at different times in the season. Hope I remember to try to do that!

Hmm, How did I miss this Naked Lady. It comes up with these white margins and maintains these colors throughout the season.

However, the second flush has different colors with chartreuse margins. I don't know if this is normal or if it is sporting. I'll be watching it more closely this season as it matures.
