Wow, that's a lot. First off--you sound like you want to make potential layout changes, and maybe change the floor in a few years. Don't go through the labor and expense of painting your cabinets now. Wait at least until you have a plan for the new floor. And don't bother with new countertops if you are changing the kitchen layout in a few years.

Right now you should spend time focusing on the kitchen layout. What do you like? What do you need to change? Post a floorplan with detailed dimensions here and a list of what you need from the new space, and you will get great design help. Once you know your desired layout, you can start planning a remodel schedule, and figure out fun parts (colors, finishes, etc).

I agree with mcarroll: if you are going to do a kitchen renovation don’t do a partial reno now. You mentioned possible gray cabinets and gray countertops. I included some pictures of my gray kitchen for you. I got my inspiration for a gray kitchen from a trip to Colonial Williamsburg Virginia. When you do your reno, I suggest to use a seasoned kitchen designer (KD) to help with your layout and product choices. KD are worth their weight in gold!! They can save you money, aggravation and mistakes. KD can offer you lots of venders that have great cost savings too! Best of luck on your journey!
