What are you willing to change? I love your rug. It's hard to tell about the sofa with the throws covering but I would change the sofa to one the rusty/peach color in the center of the rug.

The blue chair is ok because it pleasing to the eye to have something darker in a light room but I think the pillows should be a lighter blue and the stripes are too beachy for the room.

I think the furniture layout could be improved…could you post views of the fireplace side with the blue chair?

The light sofa/chair (in its original position) work well with the traditional fireplace and the beautiful coastal paintings/decor. The rug not so much…it has a southwestern style and it’s not large enough. A rug that has coastal colors…sandy beiges, driftwood grey, muted blue/greens, and sunny golds…would pull it all together. Is the chaise part of the sofa attached? Or is it a sofa with an ottoman and full cushion that can be flipped to the other end? Just trying to understand the options. I would try the light wood cabinet at the opposite end of the sofa and center it on that wall. Move the end table/lamp/accessories and potted plant to the other side of the sofa. The leather ottoman works so much better than the round table. I think I’d relocate the blue chair to another place in your home.

Love your new rug! About your sofa: is that an separate ottoman at the end on the right with a blanket over it? If not, I would remove it and just leave the sofa. I see you have a dog and probably why your sofa is covered. Why not get a easily washable blanket in the color of the sofa so that every day everything still blends in. After doing this exercise, I now see a nice leather ottoman in a later picture you posted above. Did you place it instead of your round coffee table? I'm sending you a visual that might help you put everyting in place. I took furniture that looks similar to yours because it was impossible to work from the pictures. You have the blue armchair and also blue in your carpet so I went with blue accents here and there with accessories that complement each other. I also suggest a more substantial end table instead of the small round one. Instead of speading out objects on a surface you can group them, or you can also use a large tray to group objects. Instead of horizontal blinds on your windows roman shades would dress them up. Here it is...

I think the furniture choices are fine. I would change the wall color.

Sofa is a chaise sofa so unfortunately that can’t be removed.
Will switch out blankets for dog on sofa.
Yes put leather ottoman in lieu of the round table from earlier post.
Not sure its the correct choice?
Do need an end table thats more appropriate.

Debbysgepard, further to you comment, it's not that the ottoman doesn't fit with the decor but your sofa with a chaise, there might not be room to get in and out of the sofa. It would look odd to have completely at the other end, it should be centered with the 2 remaining seats. I think the round table is a better and more practical shape,

Art and accessories look like you're going for a coastal feeling, but the rug took over and it should! It is beautiful! I think the walls should be painted with SW's Sea Salt so you can stick with the coastal vibe. Use matchstick blinds at the windows to add texture. Consider using the blonde cabinet under TV right of the FP by the light switch if it will fit and TV isn't too wide to go on it.Use a swivel base if needed. Float the sofa with its back to the single window. I would probably add some fill to the back cushions; the look a bit squishy to be very comfortable. Ditch the coffee table for the leather hassock. Get some "C" tables for the sofa. Replace the blue chair with something in one of the colors from the rug. Try a floor lamp or two. Can't see the sconces, but you could use capiz shell ones to keep the vibe going.

Oh gosh, Im no expert at all. If it were my room, Id shop for a new coffee table. To me, the darker wood and black iron elements dont go with your other choices. . I like your pretty wood flooring, the rug is beautiful, and I see you heading in a lighter, more coastal direction. But the coffee table seems off.

Ah, I see now you have that ottoman. I like the ottoman better, but still feel something in a light wood tone, or a lighter color, might improve the direction.

Not a pro and following. I have a very similar problem, where it is basically a solid look, but something is still not there yet. Solid choices in furniture and decor somehow fell a little flat. 

I do see this: family room is actually monochromatic. Is this what you want? If so, this is ok esp for this small space. 

Off the top of my head: they make decorative wooden dog crates, might be more practical in place of the buffet.

Can everyone see the tv? Is there a chair that no one really uses? It would be nice if the pathway to the kitchen were open.

Love the rug. See what it looks like pulled out more from under the sofa.

Definitely change sofa blankets to beige.

It needs a clear statement that draws your eye, instead of decor all over. I agree that curtain panels can make that impact, even if you stay with the white from the dining area. 

Finally, I would take the wall art down throughout the space and live with this awhile. Leave the nails in. Pick 2 or even 1 favorite ocean picture. 

Don't get me wrong--this is a nice space. I would not buy anything else. It just needs that icing on the cake. Since I share your problem, I'm hoping this will get both of us to a good start. Take some pics for us as you go.

Definitely going to do some rearranging/wall color change.

Before you start painting the walls which is a big job and will the new colour have to extend to other adjoining rooms (ex dining room, hallway, etc.) would you consider relocating the white and blue armchairs and replacing them with 2 smaller matching armchairs in front of the fireplace (leaving space in between to see the fireplace). From the pictures, it looks like that might work and would make the room look larger and more coherent. From the pictures, the colour of the walls seems fine when well accessorized. Here's an example showing 2 different available fabrics but they should of course match...
