You may have trouble in customs, and don't try to smuggle in the seeds.

OK then. The Tomato I like the best is Costoluto Fiorentino and it the top 10 best of the world.

My third favorite is mountain Magic and one of the easiest intermediates you can grow.

I have a sweet spot for Amish paste but not the easiest to grow, big plants and picky fruit going from ripe to rotten in short time so use them to sweeten up sauce. Celebrity are pretty darn good but are determinate bush and use them for juice and sauce. Number two changes every season and last season was Organic delicious but I need to give it another year to determine if it's a keeper. Basically number two is the best large indeterminate slicer I have that season. I like to try a couple new ones every year and with 1000's of varieties I'll never run out.

Virginia sweet is delicious and is also a bicolor, KBX is also very good,its a orange tomato. And if you want something Really big you can try a Domingo, which has produced 2 world record tomatoes for me,the current one weighed 10.8 lbs.

You could try some of the dwarfs possibly, they are nice sized plants and pretty besides  or even some of the micros which you can grow in 6 inch pots.

Congratulations Dan on your world records. I checked out your record and wonder if you made a sandwich big enough for a slice? Anyway I'm making my seed shopping list and checked out your suggested variety and will be adding Virginia sweets and KBX to the garden this year, both look good and found a fan club of KBX on tomatoville. The following suggestions are all open pollinated heirloom beefsteak tomatoes so you could save seeds. I'd recommend Pink Brandywine (Sudduth Strain) a with a sweet tomato flavor. And also Dester which to me is the best tasting tomato. Both of these are available at Seed Savers Exchange.

I would assume that the tomatoes your looking for are unavailable in Japan; in which case you would need to save seeds from those you try and like. The method I use is to dip a teaspoon into a seed cavity and scoop out seeds onto a folded half sheet of paper towel, write the tomato variety on the towel and dry it for a few days. I never put the seeds into a container; I just stack the towels so they always get a little air exchange.There is also a method called fermenting which I would use if I were saving commercial quantities and needed loose seeds

thanks for the tips on saving seeds..!i understand that the heirlooms can be saved for seeds and the hybrids cant-but doesnt it mean that if i am saving seeds i cant grow different types of tomato near each other as they will get mixed and seeds for next yr will be something different?

They are self pollinating, so usually they won't cross pollinate by growing next to each other but they can in rare instances.

I saved some seeds from a heirloom Hungarian beaver dam pepper plant which is self pollinating and ended up with a strange cross pollinated result, so it does happen. Last year I saved seeds from a hybrid onion variety which was discontinued a few years back. Used the last of my Copra seeds in 2020 and planted some bulbs to go to seed in 2021, so I'll see what I get this year.

New for this year I ordered Virginia sweets (thanks Dan), Chefs choice (yellow), and the entire Mountain series. I decided against KBX because the taste description of very sweet and low in acid are not my favorites.

I'm anxious to plant my Dwarf tomatoes for the first time this year- bought quite a few from Victory seeds.

The description of Uluru Ochre states it is very early ripening.

A Youtube video convinced me to also buy Dwarf Awesome . There's many others that look incredible and easy to grow, they will be short plants and not need much pruning.

If you have room for a sprawling tomato, DESTER from Baker Creek seeds is supposed to be great. If i had a bigger garden I sure would give it a try.

Well I'm impressed. Ordered $20 bucks worth of seeds from Baker Creek on Monday afternoon and got them today and free shipping. Plus they threw in a free seed pack of Tomato called Thorburn's Terra-Cotta which grows a honey brown skin. Weird but I'm growing it.

Jung and totally tomatoes hasn't even shipped yet. Two others who sell through Amazon have shipped, Sow right and another I can't remember. I suggest getting your seeds ordered early, because of weather and labor issues last summer some varieties will be in short supply and the demand is still elevated.

I ordered some Cherry and Salad types from various companies, I don't know how rare or common they are . This is a new adventure for me to research and grow tomatoes. I tried to find some of the very best.

Two dark colored Dwarf tomatoes of good report are MARY'S CHERRY and VELVET NIGHT from Victory seeds .

Today I ordered Dwarf JEREMYS Stripes- the photo is from Victory Seeds.

ARTISAN TIGER STRIPES mix ( Green Tiger, Pink Tiger, and Blush ) contains all three varieties in the packet from Botanical Interests seed company, the photos are from Baker Creek. Below is Pink Tiger.

For a tangy, and sweet large green tomato, try Green Giant. Produces better than Aunt Ruby's German Green and tastes better too.

I'm another big fan of KBX. For a large red I like Wes which averages around 1 lb. Rebel Yell and German Johnson are my favorite pinks. Sungold is my favorite cherry. Big Beef is the most productive tomato I've grown and is very good.
