It's a Doll pumpkin. A blue Doll or porcelain Doll and two hybrid varieties I grew last year. Your saying it's not blue or white, and neither were all of mine. there was a variant of color from each variety with some blue looking more dark purple.

But the flesh is what you'll see in a Doll pumpkin and it's editable and very good they say.

I am pretty sure that is a Musque de Provence (neither of the Dolls develop a skin color anywhere near that dark). It has that heavily ribbed, flattened shape with very intense orange flesh and and a deep tan to chocolate brown skin (the longer on the vine, the darker it gets). It is a very old variety, popular for eating and is considered a cultivar of Cucurbita moschata.

What ever but cool. I'm putting Musquee de Provence on my shopping list because I like weird things and the editable flesh, and gotta try it.

The flesh is excellent , I got a ton of purée out of it and made a pumpkin pie already and I have a bunch in the freezer. Definitely keeping the seeds so I can try to plant it Sometime in the future.

It's definitely NOT Musquee de Provence; the stem is clearly a maxima.

Whatever it is, to judge by the appearance of the flesh, it looks like good eating. ;-) I don't see why it would have been thrown away, unless there is some hidden spoilage.
