bathroom remodel input

I am redoing my guest bath. House is coastal style…we live in West palm beach. I am thinking to keep the sink and want to design something around it. White vanity, wainscoting, convert tub to shower with glass door. I can’t decide on the tile for floor and shower except that I know I want porcelain. Any ideas on how to tie in with the sink but stay coastal? Here are some current photos.

Is the sink blue or black?

Assuming your sink is navy, I would do white floor, all white walls, white shower tile with a navy accent stripe, and navy rug. Add "coastal" with a seagrass and/or wood baskets for storage, tissue box cover, tray for corralling the vanity bottles, etc.

Yes it’s navy. Here are some other rooms in our house.

Thanks for navy sink info. I would do as @mcarroll16 suggests. If you don't care for accent stripes in the shower bath tile, just use plain white. A white and navy patterned bath mat would be a good place to add more pattern.

I also love a coastal look and I agree with the white direction for the shower tile. I have 12x24” porcelain tile that looks like a white marble with very light veining. I love it. There aren’t as many grout lines to clean, and it does a good job of concealing the white spots that we get from our very hard water in Arizona. If you’re going with a white vanity, it could be fun to have navy penny tile on the floor.

Paint the walls blue above the wainscoting and add art and blue and white accents along with the blue white shower curtain.

I am rethinking keeping the sink now… because I really like kohler purist fixtures and wanted to tie in marble look tile somewhere…not sure that all goes together. Maybe I will do a more clean look like this?

Use the navy tile only on one shower wall.

Here is my latest thought. Annie Selke crosshatch tile in ice blue for shower and marble look or grey hex for floor. Which do you like better? Vanity will be white with quartz top. Mix of brass and satin nickel for fixtures. Decided against wainscoting but could be convinced to add back. White or grey walls. Thank you for your help with this!!

We are planning a remodel of our upstairs, including the master bath. Having spent hours at the tile place and Ferguson's, I know the myriad choices and how hard it is to decide! Do you have a designer? That can be helpful.

Patterned sinks seem to have seen their day, so changing it is probably a good call. My guess is that grey will follow. Unless you adore it, white, black and blue seem like more timeless choices.

Do you have a GC? Have you priced out the various changes? Your guest bath does not look that bad. A designer might be able to help you update without the expense of a gut remodel.

@latifolia thank you for the comment! We are keeping costs doable by replacing things in the same location but converting bath to shower. The tile is the last decision to be made. Fixtures are done - kohler purist and visual comfort sconces with rectangular mirror and medicine cabinet.

If you decide to remove the sink perhaps think about using it for a powder room. It's very pretty.

I like that crosshatch tile. I’ve never seen that before. If your vanity is white, I would do gray, greige or blue on the walls so there is some contrast with the vanity. Pulling the blue from the cross hatch tile for the wall color could be nice. Since it looks like a fairly small space, reducing (or eliminating) the visual break between the wall color and the shower tile will help the eye read it as a larger space.

I would go with the marble look on the floor. Are the marble look tiles small enough or rated to be slip resistant? That’s one mistake I made in our master bath. I used real marble 6x12” tiles on the floor, and it can be slippery. I worry about it not being safe when we’re older.

Are you still going with the dark blue patterned sink? I think it’s pretty, but I’m worried it’s not going blend well with the more modern-style cross hatch tile in the lighter blue. I feel like there is a bridge piece that is missing.

Should I take the crosshatch tile across the whole wall that the toilet is against (in addition to the shower walls)? Or stop at the glass shower enclosure?

I like the idea of taking it across that whole wall. I think it would help connect the space and eliminate the visual break. I did tile on all my walls, but I have a very tiny shower/ toilet room and the vanity is in a separate space—it’s like an old school motel layout. (It’s a 1950s era house, and we decided not to mess with moving walls.) At any rate, I think the consistent material on the walls, really helps the space feel larger in our case.
