entryway rug size?

last modified: 4 years ago

This picture is from the model home since ours won't be built till this Spring. The entryway measures 96"x76" and I will be putting a black or gray bench on the left side. It's an open floor plan and you walk right into the Great Room where the area rug is a black, gray and cream plaid. https://www.ethanallen.com/en_US/shop-rugs-geometric-and-stripes/glenvyl-plaid-rug/041284.html The sofa is a medium gray. What size rug do I need at the door and what kind of pattern? We're going Modern Farmhouse. Thanks for your help!

Just ideas to keep or toss - idk about black table, unless distressed into soft black... entry opens up right away to sofa it feels like part of it -- does it? So I'd try a 4 x 6' or...

btw, their glass lamp seems good idea- having a mercury glass lamp to shine in sunlight.

If entry just has to have black table -- antiqued finish with bit of black? :)

I agree with a rug that is 4 by 6 feet. Low pile.

Crafted from flat-woven polypropylene fibers - mimicking the look of jute. For best results, keep out of direct sunlight... other colors -

I like the colors and that pillow (!) that everdebz posted.

here's the size I would do, with a large, more proportional light

and I'd prob do a console table against that wall where they have the bitty shelf.

better looking light. (I actually have this in my hallway)

How about this look to go w/the grays/blacks/whites? Cabinet is from target.

do a white board/batten all around the 3 walls. rust wood mirror. plant.

I like this rug too. right size.

Rather than a black or gray bench, go for a natural wood and accessorize w/the blacks/grays/whites

You have some great light in the entry which means you can have greenery!

Styling the console is everything. Love this paired w/the rug you listed.

a bit more traditional. silver/gray rug, white wainscot.

I'd also think about doing the shiplap on those 3 walls.

Or, a board and batten. (and this soft blush w/the grays/white/charcoal is killer)

bring in a mirror, a rustic wood shelf, basket. another shiplap wall.

You have a great space there to do a lot of diff design elements.

I'll some others in the next comment w/benches.

First consider how you will use this entry. Do you need a drop zone? Do you need a bench to sit and don boots or shoes? Once you determine that select the furniture that will support those functions and see what floor space remains. Then you can size the rug. So rug comes last. 🙂. Many looks that would work in the space. What style furniture do you have for this home? Lighting will also be important and you can layer in possibly a lamp, a flush interesting fixture at the ceiling entry. Possibly a lamp on a console too. You could put that lamp on a timer so it could come on before you arrive home to give you welcoming lighting.
