what to do with this wall ??

I’m at a loss for what furniture and decor to use on the walls and surrounding the fireplace! I want to create a cozy look. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Would you consider moving the television?

Get two matching free-standing bookcases and place one on either side of the fireplace. Accessorize them with some colorful accent pieces.

Instead of using the overhead lights, place table lamps on the side tables. The recessed lighting does not promote a cozy feel.

Add colorful pillows to the sofa.

Hi there! I love the color of your walls and fireplace. Depending on the budget, how about flanking each side of the fireplace with custom bookshelves or cabinet on the bottom and bookshelves on top. Add some decorative handle pulls to make it pop. You can paint the bookcase the same color as the wall, white to match your baseboards, or another complimenting color. Another idea would be to add a chair on each side, lamp, table, and artwork. This would provide more seating and lighting. In place of a picture you could always add open shelving. Another idea would be to add decorative moldings in a design that pleases you. There is also room above the TV to hang a metal scroll for more decor. Add a plant for greenery and complete the look. You could also paint the piece of wall the tV is on a comnplimenting color that matches your other decor. Depending on how big the mantle is, you can add some candle sticks and other decor on each side of the tv. Hope this helps :-) .

I would get two matching consoles and add art above. Which would add a lot of color to your space.

Carrie B no that’s not an option. We just moved in so it stays 😉. But thanks!

Such great ideas everyone. Thank you so much for the detailed suggestions and pictures. This is what I need. I do have a couple of chairs to work with and I like them but don’t get a cozy vibe from them. Maybe adding a side table and lamp would help? I like the bookcase ideas too though

The 2 chairs need to face the window. You can add a small table between them.

Here are a number of examples of what can be placed along side a fireplace.

Your sectional doesn't appear the huugee kind, so one side could have a settee/ bench, possibly to look outside? where are your lamps? one side should have light.

I agree above Can we see more of room?

If the fan is staying there and dark bronze, might as well repeat it --

Or add a 'cool' vibe to fan and fp --? blends steel, fabric, and pine wood elements/ external mesh casing is made of iron-tinted solid steel and brass nails for added effect on the trim.

I like the idea of 2 simple consoles (great for storage) with the stacked art or mirrors. How tall are your ceilings?

I’ll take some more pics of the room this morning and post them. Since I’m doing that, I’m also trying to figure out the window treatments. We get very bright afternoon Sun so need to be able to close blinds or curtains at least temporarily during that time and at night.
    Walls are 10’.

Since you're planning on installing window treatments, can you post a photo showing your windows?

Here are some. And I know that table isn’t decorated like it should be! I just have things on it temporarily till I get what I want.

I see no lamps at all in the room. I suggest that you look into side tables, etc. that could hold lamps for reading and low level lighting in your room. So that you aren’t dependent upon just your ceiling light/fan for down lighting. Levels of light help make a space cozy and warm.

did you try playing with that console table in your last picture on the wall next to the fireplace?

TV could go over that console

After seeing the photos you posted, I have some suggestions:

Replace the two small metal end tables with one larger one, and add a lamp on it.

Get a square or round coffee table.

Add pillows in a more saturated color.

Add a lamp on the round table between the sofa and the recliner.

Install woven wood shades on your triple windows, then add curtain panels mounted on rods and rings to soften the windows. The wood shades will add some organic texture. You can line them in blackout fabric if necessary, but it seems you have a covered porch outside that window so maybe you don't get all that much sun glare? (not sure where you're located.) You might consider a colorful, pretty pattern on the curtains.

I love those striped chairs--they really add a lot!

Maybe get a much larger/taller plant for more life in the room.

Diana Bier Interiors thank you so much! I think these are great suggestions. I wondered about woven shades. I like the idea of adding curtains to them.

Everdebz thank you! These are ways of adding color I hadn’t thought of, especially of a runner in front of the console. I haven’t placed rugs that close together before. Will a brighter runner look ok next to the muted tones of the living room rug?

    last modified: 4 years ago

I thought it might work since blue seems the color direction. The runner isn't high on the list, because you might find a super console/ chest or other for the fp wall in another color.

Is the console one that's staying right there? Is the bedroom blue?

I think your 2 chairs placed at the same angle on either side of the fireplace are fine (no throws or pillows needed). It's the space behind them that's bare. As mentioned by others above, I would place identical consoles with either mirrors or artwork above to flank the fireplace. The room decor doesn't seem finished, I presume you have a coffee table which could use some decor as well as a lamp on the end table (or end tables, can't see if it's 2 sofas or a sectional). By changing the fan to a more decorative chandelier would also warm up the space.
