Looks somewhat like Salvia coccinea, which is a FL native. But also plenty of cultivated forms (which I doubt this is) available as well.

To me this looks like something in the Acanthaceae, not a Salvia. Some idea of the size and an image of the leaves would be helpful.

I agree with Jay, except to say that this is Tecomeria capensis; all Tecomas are New World species.

Aha. I had no idea this was a shrub. Looking in entirely the wrong places.

Also known here in Oz as Bignonia capensis, where it's become a nasty, invasive weed in some states.

Tecoma

More commonly named the Cape Honeysuckle--although I don't think it is really a honeysuckle. This is an excellent hummingbird plant. Mine blooms mostly in late fall and early spring. It is blooming now. This plant also attracts other birds, including Baltimore Orioles on my property. It will grow as a shrub, but it also climbs like a vine. Mine reaches over twenty feet high growing on some Crepe Myrtles--which I now have no other use for since they don't seem to attract any pollinators.

I hate this plant. It nearly took over my yard once. I put it into a hedgerow, and it has these nasty underground runners that came up all over the yard. Then there are the damned seedlings everywhere. I wouldn't have this plant again if you paid me.

Yes! I inherited mine and thought I'd removed it, only to have it come back with a vengeance.
