We bought a different WOW tile for our bathroom floor through a local independent showroom. I'd recommend calling around in your area to see who carries it!

Candri, I had responded on my phone but looks like it never posted. We live in NH and I found this tile at Tile Gallery in Manchester NH. The staff is great, very patient and helpful. I did try a sample of the gloss and it looked awful in my kitchen, none of the other colors seemed to show up. Good luck

ug, I'm having the same problem, I initially said no to Cloe because they are too shiny, but now due to lack of easily available alternatives, I was resined that I'd have to use Cloe.

I want a mostly white bathroom. I do not love white subway tile look. Cold and clinical. I'd rather have open, light, bright, warm. Thus, for the wall tiles, I decided I should look for rectangular tiles with a bit of color variation, with an overall slightly relaxed feel.

Do you find Makoto to be similar but a lot warmer? I actually do not like the grayness of Cloe. I was aghast seeing some of the real life Cloe installation photos here yesterday. Cloe cream seem well.. too tan. Is Makoto more white with some cream?

@jonnyt - if you have also looked in to Cloe, do you feel WOW Gradient is just as grey? I'm thinking mixing Wow Gradient gloss and matte. But WOW tile availability is a big one

@Jenn Powers - which WOW tile did you go with? I seriously contemplated Fez, Six Hexa, and Gradient. Yes I was even willing to go with hextagons on a wall. Six Hexa is actually beautiful.

WOW tiles (especially trims) seemed much more difficult to obtain, and Bedrosian was half the price, and I was tired of thinking about it, so I resigned myself to Cloe, but was always ambivalent - and then I saw the photos yesterday!

@pongstress we used the WOW six hexa in dark green on the floor.

@Jenn Powers thank you! I may have to look into WOW again, ouch!! Six Hexa white was a real contender. Trim availability was the issue.

@Candri Brizu - I cannot find many pics of Makoto White in real life. Would you still call it "white - ish" or is it really Makoto Greyge in your opinion?

I think I want mostly off white or ivory with a bit of shade variation. I'm second guessing myself if V4 shade variation is more than I want...

I had decided on Cloe several weeks ago in order to move on from tiles, and I was quite relieved to close that chapter. So seeing real life Cloe photos was a real shock to me today (it did not occur to me to search "Cloe" in houzz discussion) but better now than after I've bought them - trying to bounce back ...

One thing I noticed, is that my iPhone camera does auto white balance and there is no easy way to override it - and the "white reference point" changes all the time with the phone. Thus it is really hard to capture the subtle difference in whiteness.

@pongstress - yes, i would still call it off white or ivory. its a gorgeous tile and everyone thinks iti's way more expensive than it actually is. Significantly more premium looking than Makoto. Particularly if you are not a glossy kind of person (I am not). Based on what you are looking for, I'd say it's the perfect tile for you. good luck!

Candri Brizu Any chance we can see a picture of your makoto bathroom? Do you have a tub in there? Trying to find a tub surround for our guest bathroom. Something neutral but still interesting.

I ordered Makoto tile in blue for my son’s bathroom but it was more teal. Still gorgeous but not the color I was looking for.

For those of you who've lived with Makoto tiles in your showers/baths for a while, I'm wondering how it's been for you cleaning/maintaining this tile. I love Makoto for its organic colors and subdued elegance, but I read that matte tiles in showers are hard to clean (compared to glossy) because dust and stains stick to them more. I have young kids so bath paints are a thing. Have your Makoto tiles been hard to clean, or any harder than a glossy tile would be?

I have matte tiles on 2 bathrooms and 1 kitchen; including makoto shoji white. I have glossy in 1 bathroom. I have found it to be complete BS that matte tiles are hard or harder to clean than glossy tiles.

Thank you Candri Brizu! We recently installed Makoto midori green in our remodel but haven’t moved in yet. And I was worried that it had been a mistake. A beautiful but hard to clean mistake. Whew!

Well, it occurred to me that I have samples of Makoto at home, so I tested them for cleaning! Here are the results.

* Tested tiles: Makoto midori green & kumo gray, which are both matte. Also two glossy tiles for comparison - Cloe and Traditions (Bedrosians' basic subway tile).

Test (1) Splashed them with water as they laid flat on my counter. I have hard water (my city is 240ppm if you want to compare). The green Makoto tile showed significant water stains when dried (yikes!), the gray Makoto looked a lot better. The glossy tiles looked fine overall but did have fingerprint smudges and water spots if you looked at from a certain angle. See first photo.

Test (2) Soap scum and kid bath paint (the red spot you see on the tile). All the tiles showed those marks and all washed away equally well. The matte did not feel any harder to scrub than the glossy.

Test (3) Put them in the shower in vertical position. This simulates the actual position they will dry in, which apparently made a big difference. The green Makoto now came out just fine! See second photo.

Based on this, my conclusion is that matte tiles are harder to clean only if (1) you have hard water, (2) tiles are dark and (3) tiles lie horizontally on your floor. Knowing this now I will never use black tiles on floors!

@Candri Brizu Do you mind sharing what grout color your use with Makoto soji white tiles? I'm doing this for my kitchen backsplash tile and having a hard time deciding grout color
