thanks Emily, that was my first instinct too, but others in my family thought we should keep both doors. It's not like the bedroom guests would have to go very far to get into the bathroom, since its right there outside the bedroom door.

A friend of mine had two doors, but it never worked becasue the person using the bathroom would lock both doors and only remember to unlock one when leaving. She gave up and put a piece of furniture in front of the bathroom door in the bedroom.

One door from the hall only. I stayed in a vacation house once with a jack n jill setup and couldn’t stand it. The doors were always in the way.

We have a similar setup for a powder room, but both doors are attached to actual powder room. I thought it was strange, but only because there is no shower (house built in 1959). However, when we renovated the bathroom we kept both doors. My husband uses the attached room as his office. Weve never had issues with anyone walking in when occupied.

I think the access to the bathroom is private and close enough that it really does not need to have a direct access from the bedroom.

How will it be used the most?

2 doors is generally not good.

I'd rather you put the door to the suite "north" of the bathroom and leave it open when not in use - then - it's accessible inthe hall, and if someone is in the suite, they manage the access prior to getting to the bathroom.

It will be used as a powder room most with guest room as a secondary thing.

I have this set up! It is convenient for overnight guests to be able to go directly into the bathroom to get reay for bed and get ready the next morning. I think an en suite adds home value as a second master BR. The new door should not overlap the existing door…I had to make the en suite door swing into the BR.

Isn’t a Jack & Jill bathroom a bathroom shared by 2 bedrooms? Or does the term include a family full bath with door to hall and en suite door to 1 BR?

We remodeled a very small bath to have a similar set-up and it works out great. The lower level of our house has 2 bedrooms. One is my teenaged DS room and the other is a guest room. My parent's and DH's parent stay with us a few times a year for about 1 week at a time and the set up has worked beautifully.

The bathroom has a regular door in the hallway that is used by people staying in the guest room or anyone using the lower level family room. The other end of the bath has a pocket door that leads to the other bedroom's walk-in closet, and that, in turn, is separated by another pocket door that leads to the other bedroom.

We went from this 7'x7' bath that serviced 2 bedrooms:

I’ve only seen successful Jack and Jill bathrooms when shared between two bedrooms (usually siblings). If this bathroom has hall access, close up the other door to gain the room inside. I’m sure the locking of doors unconsciously will create headaches.

Those doors opening against each other create conflict. If one is open you can’t open the other. Do you plan on keeping both closed all the time so either door can be opened?

Marylut - that is a much better option and will make it an ensuite bathroom for when guests are using it.

Hall door only. It is a guest room or second bedroom and has not need for a guest door and the guest room has no need for a foyer. KISS Keep it simple silly

I have a bathroom off a small hallway like you have drawn. In fact the bedroom is located just south of the bathroom like yours. I think the bathroom is very private for guests.
