Looks to be a Norway Spruce cone. Picea abies. Seedlings pop up in my yard on a regular basis so must be easy to grow, although I haver never tried.

Once the seed has sprouted and is growing do you have a large enough yard to plant it?

Most pine with cones are large trees, and are unsuited for many small urban yards.

I have a giant clearing in the woods.

Around here when they cut a stand of pines, they leave about one standing for every couple of acres, After a few season the field is covered with small pine trees. We lived on the coastal plain of NC and currently live about half way up the plateau out side of Raleigh.

The type of pine determines the the growth rate. It is my understanding that there a genetic engineered varieties that grow faster. I don't know for sure but check with your county extension agent they may have a source of pine seed that you can buy'

Being a bit nit picking here, but the OP’s cone isn't from a Pine, (Pinus). It’s a Spruce, (Picea).
