I'd remove the shutters, which are undersized and crowded. Then you have nearly complete freedom on front door color. Mockup in a minute.

I think any of the following door colors would complement the neutral colors of your house and roof…indigo, chestnut, or onyx

Yeah, I really like the shutters gone. Just a few colors, but hard to see through the glass.

Thank you for mocking those up. Yeah it is tough to see through the glass, one of the reasons we are trying to remove. And never considered the shutters being removed, I'd be nervous what the siding looks like under them as it is facing the south so lots of sun fading I'm sure.

I agree with acm regarding no shutters. A wide trim would be another option.

If you keep the shutters, a different color might work better with your roof. Black could work or a dark-ish gray/green.

Sorry, not part of your question, but your choice of the siding color for the garage doors was wise. Just wanted to suggest at some point you might consider windows across the top of the garage door to add some interest.

If you find you can't remove the shutters, think about a very dark green or very dark brown (espresso) for the shutters. Green door with green shutters. You could still have a red door with brown shutters. Maybe a different shade of red if you're tired of the current one. Daylight washes colors out, so you can go with very dark colors and they won't look as dark outside.

Agree you should peek under the shutters to see if there’s of much fading. If they can be removed, you have freedom to paint the door any color. Love the blue mock up from @acm.
If shutters have to stay, a deep green (pine, evergreen color) with matching door will be a nice change from wha you have.
When it’s time to do the roof, come back for suggestions. Brown, as you have found, is limiting.

I almost never agree with the “remove shutters” crowd, but I do this time. I also agree that it opens you up to lots of door colors.

If your siding is vinyl, Sherwin Williams might be able to match any faded color with their vinyl siding paint to paint over the original un-faded color behind the shutters.

after removing the shutters, if the door is black, shouldn't the window trims be black too? iows same color? makes the features pop more.
