foyer light placement

Many sites discuss the height to place the foyer light but is there a minimum distance it should be from the entry door. I have a 6 ft closet on the side and the entry door opens to an open concept room. Is 3ft too close to hang it. Figured it would look better centered with the closet but maybe that doesn’t matter.

it should be 7 ft from the floor so that would put it a foot over the doorway, but seeing the space makes a world of difference.

I’m actually talking about the distance out/away from the door. I will have it at the height you mention but is three feet out from the door too close or should it be further away. Three feet it would be centred with my closet.
