Absolutely fine, thanks. A bit of an exciting day yesterday but not a big deal. I was due to go to London to an exhibition and the opera but our train stopped at the first station and could go no further because of trees fallen on the line. Eventually the whole network was suspended and all the London stations shut down. Luckily we had not gone far. We got off the train and got a taxi home, by a roundabout route because of trees across roads. The opera was cancelled anyway because of the transport situation. No damage to be seen in town other than some trees down. No powercuts here.

I've been to London just once and long to go back for the culture! There was so much going on, just pop in for a concert at St. Martin's in the Fields, next night catch Twelfth Night at a small theater - again, so vibrant!

We have an opera company here in Anchorage with very dedicated and passionate people - it is so appreciated in our small city. What was the opera you were headed to? I hope you'll get to go soon.

Several friends have tickets for a concert in the O2 in early April, an event that was canceled last year for COVID. On September first last year we had a nasty tornado here in the Philly area and the roof of a nearly municipal building was torn off. Still being repaired. So my friends wonder if their long-awaited and already delayed concert will be delayed again.

I was going to Rigoletto at Covent Garden. I’m not surprised the 02 was damaged. It’s essentially a giant tent so I should think it’ll be fixed by April. The forecast is for more high winds today but not at bad as the 70mph we had on Friday. The Newton’s apple tree which was blown down was a grafted descendent in Cambridge University Botanical Gardens, rather than the original, and was planted in 1954, so I’m sure they’ll graft a new one and replace it. There are many descendents around the country. Even the ’original’ at his birth place has been regrafted several times since the 1660s.

I was concerned as well. My online newsfeed this morning was full of photos showing the destruction this storm caused. Glad to know it was more of an inconvenience for you than a life disrupting event!!

We’re now getting Storm Franklin. The wind is howling down the chimneys and rattling the windows ..... third named storm in 5 days. Although there are striking pictures of damage in the news they keep showing the same ones so it’s not as widespread as it looks. We were in the Red Warning area and there’s not much damage here other than fallen trees.
