Certainly remove the light covered by the crown, probably the one next to the projector, maybe a couple where the screen will be. I'm not seeing a lighting plan set up for a theater room, but it looks like leftover lights from another or couple spaces that you re-purposed into a theater room and you left the lights as is.

Correct - just wondering if its worth removing the lights since this is a theatre room/family room - I need bright lights in this room when I need it - just not sure how many I should keep ?

Not sure how many, can't tell from a picture at odd angles, but the locations I mentioned seem problematic. If you are conflicted on whether to remove them all, recessed cans are a great solution for a basement and family room with a screen, but their placement should relate to the space and furniture layout.

the one that is basically touching the trim and creating a hot spot should go. when designing lighting for a theatre room you should think about a theatre, the light mostly comes from the wall sconces. was there a pattern, this looks speratic?

@RL Relocation LLC The room doubles up as a theatre - I didn't want to put additional scones as decorative because I will have some decorative lighting in the crown molding. Functionally the recess light with dimming should suffice - they are connected to multiple switches.

Looks like path of least resistance is to reduce the recess cans and I would be ok...

sconces are not decorative in a theater. they function to reduce glare and set the mood. here just looks unbalanced, with tons of hot spots, and tons of unlit. And if this is showing how you linked up two switches its no good either. I hate to say it but you can totally tell this was a DIY

Be sure to apply sun-tan lotion when in that room with lights on. You don't need more than half of them, especially since this room is being used as a home theater.

Are you saying you're going to stuff some LEDs strip lights into the moldings that we see in the photos? I assume that you will not put any on the wall opposite the projector, correct?

Real movie theaters have ambient lighting on the walls, not on the ceiling.
