No I wouldn't. One knows there will be a seam and one can SOMETIMES find the seam if one looks long and hard...when the seam pops out at you then it's a poor job. Your pictures are not doing the issue justice. Frankly I had to look for awhile to see the seam--due to all the veining. Perhaps the installer did a poor job because he figured it would all blend in???

Take a picture from 3 or 4 feet back. Everything looks worse when youre right on top of it. When you pick a stone with a lot of pattern or movement, youre going to see a seam, the question is how clearly. To an average person looking at your countertop, it looks pretty good and doesnt stand out (to me). The pics are so close, who is going to have that view? I think that if you have to take a picture from 6” away to show the problem, you probably dont have a problem. Please post another picture from a few feet away.

SOMETIMES find a seam? A seam on any patterned stone will be visible, the question is how clearly. If you are under the impression that you can marry two stones together and make a completely invisible seam, someone gave you bad information. The fabricator should have let you know this. The placement of the seam may have been better. Take a picture of the area from farther away.

Honestly, I didn’t notice the seam right away in the first picture. This is a busy stone, I think they did a good job matching the veining. I’m sure your SIL will not notice that at all in just a few days and certainly none of her guests would ever notice it.

If you put your face as close as you put the camera, you’ll see every flaw in any installation. From a normal distance, it looks like they tried to match the busy pattern well. Post a photo from a normal standing position, which is how you view your kitchen.

I went to Corian school. The first thing they teach you is that seams are "Inconspicuous", never "invisible".

I have used granite people who manage to put the seam in a less-conspicuous location, and they use a grout color which matches…even if it takes 30 minutes to mix the correct grout color. I have also ordered one extra slab of granite to give them more choice in their layout.
Yes, there is more granite than needed, but I use the larger leftover pieces as a top for a rolling cart or two, and an @18”x28” piece to sit on the butcherblock island to hold a few things I use often. I use stick-on rubber feet for those moveable slab pieces.

IMHO, the dark veins are jagged enough across the entire slab that you must look really closely to see they don’t match up exactly at the seam - and who puts their nose that close except the homeowner on the day of installation? Give your SIL a piece of delicious chocolate, kudos for surviving the reno, and 1- 2 days of ignoring the seam to see how she feels.

THAT is an example of one of the best looking seams in a patterned material used in a corner.

Update, apparently my sis in law got the contractor to replace it. i don’t know who’s covering the cost? Hopefully it will match the other piece by the sink. Thank you for the help. i think from afar it may not have been so noticeable.

Replace the seam? the slab? what? Your SIL must be some talker. There is nothing wrong w that seam. The original question was about the seam, not the color of the slabs. In the first picture you can see a slight color difference.

Wow, is she ridiculous about other things in her life too? That was great work with a stone full of veining.

M Riz yes it was about the seam. i think some of her friends said or confirmed her thoughts that it didn’t look right. That’s why i posted here because i wasn’t sure what was acceptable. i have had full slabs on my kitchen islands.

Just between us… Is she sorta… you know… high maintenance? lol

IMO you do not ask ll your friends to agree with you and BTW if you want book matched you pay for it and seams are part of the issue always and rarely seen with your nose on the counter . Sorry but if I was the fabricator I would not have redon this without all paid for again.

I have a friend that can be a bit ”high maintenance”, sometimes you have to agree to make it all stop if you know what i mean. I wouldnt refer her to anybody, and I like her. lol

@jsbonelli but inquiring minds are DYING to know how the $ played out. If it's a new slab, that's big $$. I can't imagine the contractor covering that for something that was well done unless he built himself in a huge profit on the project.

Those pieces aren't matched; they were one piece at one time. It is inconcieveable that you'd get that good of movement match from unrelated pieces. We can't see the layout, but maybe she made the argument that the seam was unnecessary, which it may have been.

Wow - I am surprised that it is being redone. That is a good looking seam .
