Steve, your first hosta bed looks terrific! In your 2nd pic, great grouping, what is the plant in front of Nigrescens (?) Beautiful sunny area. I am still working on mine. Similar plant in early season shot only fall colors….. are those a bush type of JP? So happy to see someone else has shrinking hostas……lol

I have some screen shots, but I had buckets in the garden space holding where my Nayor hostas were going to go so it looks funny in those shots. I opted out of receiving them after the owners death. So I am working on filling in the back and planting new in the front.

Beautiful gardens everyone! Last year was a particularly good year. I think i have finished my last gaeden. Now i need to fill in and move crowded plants. Im geting too old to build more.

@djacob Z6a SE WI I don’t know who that hosta is unfortunately. And I have World Cup but it is not that one unfortunately. It is an older one, crazy easy and vigorous but a NOID in my garden :(

Debra, that is Aralia Sun King. It takes a couple years to get going but when it does it adds height and brightness to dark areas.

Peren. I love how you work with your hill. The placement on the hill makes all your plants stand out.

Sunnywood, I am glad you are enjoying your current garden it is beautiful. Sometimes we need to just take care of what we have and stop enlarging each garden.

Mikegag, in your first picture, what is that stunning yellow hosta? Your pics are great?

Wow! Fabulous shots. I didn't take many overall shots last year so some of these are from previous years.

Amazing gardens all, I haven't had time to fully digest all the pics but at first glance we have a lot of talented gardeners on the board (who knew?). This year I'll try to take better overall garden pics.

Now to answer some questions. The plant in front of nigrescens is Acer palmatum 'Ariadne'. It has wonderful apricot color in the spring. Planted in 2020.

The other plant is another Japanese Maple called Moonrise. It has a strong reddish blush in the spring before turning yellow in the summer. Planted in 2018. Here it is at the end of April.

Yes, it's one of my favorites and a sister to Aureum but not as finicky. Guess I should be posting in the Hosta companion thread or the Maple forum, but you did ask.

Old_dirt, I love these shots…..the beds are so full. I also love your decorative use of the creeping pilia (?) and ginger. I really like the look of the ginger but have always worried it would take over. Does it?

Wow! Beth, Peren, Sunny, Old Dirt, Debra, and Steve, your gardens are wonderful. I especially love how Old Dirt weaves the blues and greens and landscape/path contours, and Beth’s green harmony, Peren’s amazing beds, Our Steelers innovative beds, Sunny’s Hosta Haven (envy), and Debra’s lovingly composed beds. I want to tour your gardens. I feel like my gardens are too messy to share. Oh well, please forgive the mess. My gardens are reactionary, more like terraforming to prevent severe erosion. Here is my main garden in the dry creek bed in the backyard in April 2021

debra - Thank You, I bought the creeping plant as Creeping Jenny which i assume is pilia and Creeping Charlie, it is actually more difficult to keep under control than the Ginger. I have had the European Wild Ginger almost 15 years and the past few years I've had to dig and cut some out. Started out with just one small clump and has really filled in. I will have to do some major work on it soon.

This has become my favorite thread of the year! I will be spending a few more hours looking at everyone's gardens. I think we could have had a separate thread for each person's garden.

I hope (when I'm old as dirt) that my gardens will look nice and full like yours.

h_m - such a revelation in to what it takes to create such amazing new cultivars. I love the overstuffed garden look. I need more land. Do you consider it a work of love, passion or obsession? (Don't ask me what the difference is. I'm skewed over to the obsession side of the spectrum.) Any fear of draining that lake just watering your Hosta? Does Bob sneak on to your property pulling random giants with little root systems very often? Is that a motion sensor sprinkler to deter the wildlife? I picked a couple up but haven't started using them yet. (Feel free to ignore or answer these questions as you like).

UToG - I'm sure any of us would be thrilled to tour your garden regardless of its "readiness". Whenever my garden is "ready", you might as well dig a six foot hole for me in it.

I need to go back and take a closer look at the previous posts, but I keep getting distracted as I scroll up.

actually that is golden falls in his hand. apparently you dont need roots to tissue culture something. Those motion controlled sprinklers are a godsend for deer control. and its fun watching chickens when it goes off. usually i dont have to water with underground spring going into the lake. but if the drought continues i will rig up some kind of rube goldberg watering system. lately now that i have invested in tc of my plants i have added cloud cameras. and im working on robots with lasers haha

Hosta_maker, I agree with Steve— I love that full garden look…..favorite shot is the last one where you are showing off some streakers.

Nicholsworth, I know you complain about having all those trees, but you have many places with dappled shade, something I don’t have. 🙁 I have sun and mostly shade…….no real dappled shade. All of your garden shots look beautiful!

Dogs make the garden better. Hydrangeas have been growing well over the past couple years.

but some plants (like your hydrangea tree) don't love my shade..so sometimes my plant envy comes out..

bottom line..I actually love my trees..

Mbug, I really enjoy seeing your yard because it is smaller like mine. You have done a great job of mixing colors, textures, heights and overall variety. I have a front yard that is pretty well planted, but my back sun area is a work in progress as you can see from those pictures. Your yard is really full, but I found two spots for Mouse Ears hostas! Hahahaha!
