Question About Seeds and Damping Off

I have started some daylily seeds - many are coming up well; some better than others. I have had problems with damping off in the past - and have sprinkled sand and/or vermiculite on top of the seed starting soil when I plant. I now am noticing a few are falling over and dont look like they will make it. After the initial watering [I water carefully with a syringe], I water from the bottom, keeping the medium damp. What am I doing wrong that I am getting these that die from damping off? Right now these are under lights in the house but thinking of moving them to the greenhouse - the very young ones I have there are not having this problem. Thanks for any help - this is frustrating.
