Go with 42". You won't regret having a wider front door. All my interior doors are 36" wide.

Will you have glass on the door or windows very close by?

The front door design should be appropriate for the design of the house. All we know is there will be a shallow porch so I suspect a 42 x 96 door might be too big.

There is an functional aspect to doors. Depending upon the physical makeup, strength, and agility of anyone that will be operating the door the size of the door will effect one's ability to negotiate entry or exit from your home.

Come to think of it, I am working on a house right now that I have provided a 42" x 96" front door under a six foot deep porch.

op…we have a 42” wide 8’ tall door. looks nice on our house.

A "three-six" (42 inch) door is preferable as it makes moving everything "in & out" so much easier. Delivery persons will bless you in their prayers.

I tried to send you a message but it would not go through. Because of where I live, I have not been able to find doors for my entry. I have talked to two dealers in Wyoming and they said because of the wind (and red dirt) and winter winds here that I should not get double entry doors. The space is 96" h x 72" w. I wanted the 42" w or 48" w and thought about doing a window on one side. If I do a solid door and sidelight I want it to have a 1/3 lite but I can't find any. My covered porch is 11' wide x 6' deep. The space for the doors is a little over 7' wide.
