We just take broken/cut pieces from our jades and stick them in the dirt in which ever pot has room ...

I can't really speak to other succulents ... I haven't propogated much else.

Oh, shoot. I couldn't wait last night, I was too eager, I put them in moistened mix. Will they rot now?

They should be fine. Don't add any more water for now though. In a couple weeks, touch the cuttings gently to see if they rock or if they seem firm in the mix. If they seem firm, still wait another couple weeks to water. Hope they are in pots with drainage holes.

By the way, jades aren't actually different from rooting any succulent cuttings, probably the easiest. It should work for you.

I thought of sliding a piece of cardboard between the soil and the pot, to wick water out.

If you are worried sometimes sitting pots on several layers of newspaper will wick out moisture, especially if it's a clay pot. Actually, since the cuttings have only been in there 1-2 days, you could gently remove them, let the mix dry on newspaper or whatever, then repot. I'm not actually suggesting you do that because I think you are ok unless you think the mix was more than "moist." You are doing fine, they should grow.
