New 2022/2023 Proven Winners Roses

I usually don’t get excited about rose releases by large plant distributors because it has been the overall trend that they release roses that are shapeless and smell like plastic. However, this year Proven Winners is releasing a ”Reminiscent” and ”Rise Up” rose line that seems to break that mold and I’m actually looking forward to them.

“Reminiscent™ roses represent a new day for rose lovers, combining the classic beauty and fragrance of old-fashioned roses with modern-day performance. They were developed in Serbia by a breeding team that is devoted to bringing out the best in color, fragrance, petal count, and flower power.” There is Reminiscent Pink, Reminiscent Coral, and Reminiscent Crema.

They are also releasing several new Chris Warner roses. Three are new fragrant short climber - Rise Up Lilac Days, Rise Up Amberness, and Rise Up Ringo. Another r. persica variety called Ringo Double Pink.

It appears they’re available to order online for 2022 and should be in garden centers in 2023.

Nice photos! One of the Pink and Coral Reminiscence plants I purchased died. I forgot which. It was very puny with a puny root system.. I should have potted it up instead of putting it in the ground. The remaining one has leafed out now that it is May. I look forward to seeing how it does.

Yeah maybe you got a weak plant. To me the pink reminiscence is quite vigorous. It has not bloomed much this year but has put a lot of buds now. I am somewhat disappointed about the fragrance. It is a sweet scent when it is present but most of the time I cannot smell anything.

Rise up Lilac Days really exceeds expectation. The color is true to description and the ”extremely fragrant” is no exaggeration. I will see how it will rebloom while season goes

Pink Reminiscence’s time has come! after blooming a few flowers here and there for a few weeks now it is in full bloom.

The soft pink does not fade, with its old rose form. Not much fragrance, except for some clean spice. Last year I sometimes smell old rose but it has not come this year

Good companions with Fun in the Sun

The Reminiscent coral finally got its home in the ground and its first blooms

It looks to be a healthy rose and I expect great results.

Thank you everyone for this incredibly helpful thread! I saw Rise Up Lilac Days at a garden centre recently (before I saw this post!) and I just could not resist it, so I did an impulse buy, and I am so happy that I did, after reading through this thread!!!

For those of you with Rise Up Lilac Days, does it behave like a shrub or a climber for you please?

Does anyone have Rise Up Amberness please? The ones that I have seen locally seem to be less healthy than the Rise Up Lilac Days, which does look much more vigorous. What is your experience please?

    Kristine, Reminiscent Coral is lovely!

@ostrich, congtatulations on your new rose. my Riseup Lilac Days is a climber. It has long smooth branches that are easily to bend and train. Introduction says it is a small climber.

Oh yes, that Reminiscent Coral is STUNNING! OK, it's on my shopping list now... LOL!

Forever, I saw another Rise Up Lilac Days at a store on sale, so I just had to get that too! Ouch.... too many impulse buys here.... ha ha... Mine just got into the ground last week, and is now coming up with lots of buds. This guy really is so healthy and vigorous so far - I just love it! :-)

I have Reminiscent Coral and she’s a beauty. I actually just purchased Reminiscent Crema this afternoon since there is a sale going on right now at Proven Winners Direct. If anyone wants Reminiscent Coral there were still some available in the quart size for $13.99 (normally $19.99) as well as a few other roses

Reminiscent Pink is growing slower in my cool climate - was definitely ”creeping” in its second year but it was in almost continuous bloom. The blooms remind me a lot of Souvenir de la Malmaison. Not much fragrance to my nose yet.

  • last year

@Christian - I like the look of Flavorette Honey Apricot. I’m not sure if I’d use it for its culinary intents, though. It looks like they’re releasing an additional Flavorette rose - Pear’d. It supposedly has a light pear taste.

  • last year

Dave, Flavorette Pear’d looks enticing. How is the fragrance?

my Pink Reminiscence is very vigorous. In one and half years it grows to over six feet though narrow. The canes are flex so I had to tie them. Fragrance is not reliable sometimes I can smell clean and sharp apple scent.

Rise up Lilac Days has grown to a crazy 12 feet and we had to build a new pergola to move it past fall.

Spring Meadow Nursery doesn’t note the fragrance, only the taste (light pear). I wish they would as I’m sure others may want to grow for more than eating.

That’s incredible that both Reminiscent Pink and Rise Up Lilac Days have been so vigorous for you. Rise Up Lilac Days put on some great growth for me this year but then deer reduced it significantly at one point. Hopefully the fragrance of Reminiscent Pink improves for both of us. I think if ”scent” is included in the name, it had better deliver fragrance. I’m glad Rise Up Lilac Days has a wonderful fragrance at least.

I just wanted to pop in to say "thank you" to all of you for this wonderful thread - it certainly brightened up my dark, cold winter days! I am now very much looking forward to seeing how my Rise Up Lilac Days will do this coming season, and I would love to try some of these other beautiful roses that you have all shown me!!! THANK YOU and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Could someone who has reminiscent coral comment for me on how long the flowers last, or if the bush has flowers most of the time? I was a little disappointed that my At Last rose drops her flowers so fast, and they don’t even last a day indoors in a vase. It would be lovely if reminiscent Coral’s flowers last a little better!

Here come the blooms again. Rise up Lilac Days has filled the yard with fragrance

It used to be at the fromt porch. It has grown so fast in 1 year we had to build a 10 feet hight pergola to fit it.

    Happy gardening!

Oh my goodness that is so beautiful ! and once again i planted a rose where it needs more space than i gave it . whoops !!!!

  • last year

Wow! Now I need to reconsider keeping mine in a pot.

  • last year

@Lilyfinch z9a Murrieta Ca, @marascz9b I know, the description has it as small climber of 5-8 feet. But definitely not so in my area. Fortunately it seems a really vigorous plant and took the move without a blink

  • last year

Full plant of Rise up Lilac Days.

    Pergola is over 9 feet

forever_a_newbie, That is amazing! Thanks for posting the photo.

These are all so beautiful. I have just purchased Rise Up Lilac Days, Amberness, Ringo Double Pink, Crema and Coral. Bought from HD, beautifully healthy, and good amount of buds. The one gallons are on sale right now for $30. plus free shipping. I just ordered another coral and crema. The crema flower is gorgeous, the palest blush peach. It reminds me of Bolero but without Bolero's intoxicating scent. She's my all time favorite rose but struggles in my z5b/6a garden. Hopefully these will be more hardy, especially the rise ups which are said to be hardy to Z4. Hopefully my Rise Up Lilac Days will be a bit more restrained than Newbie's. She would quickly outgrow her space.

  • last year

I forgot to mention I also have Reminiscent Pink, bought last year as quarts from Great Garden Plants. They survived winter here and have healthy foliage and a few buds. My sunniest spot is 5 1/2 hours of morning sun so I tend to not get the amazing amount of blooms others get but some blooms is better than a garden without roses :-)

Hi..I am interested in Rise UP Emberays..it says 5' height. Seems pretty puny for a climbing rose..loads of roses get that tall and aren't climbers. SO anybody know? I love the bright bold colors of this rose..my Pinata is still only 3' after 2 years. If it doesn't take off next year..I'm moving it!

These seem like very nice roses!!

  • last year

Deborah, where do you live? Do you know your climate zone?

  • last year

South of Portland about an hour..zone 7. I have loads of roses here already. But you never can have enough! right?

  • last year

My Reminiscent Pink is doing great coming into fall. Clusters of big and very full blooms. Leaves are healthy even though planted with a big Lady of Shallot blocking the southern sunlight

  • last year

Reminiscent Coral is one of my favorite roses. Huge blooms that repeat often . It is a short rose so great for the front row.

  • last year

These roses have piqued my curiosity. Forever Newbie, do you have any updates on Rise up Lilac Days?

  • last year

    @Vaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley

Rise up Lilac Days is doing fine. It keeps growing and we are behind trainig it. It does not bloom much since summer, but we barely waters it and only fertilized it once in spring. It is completely neglected otherwise.

  • last year

! Wow! It looks super healthy. I am also not seeing many thorns. Is that the picture or is that the case ?

  • last year
    last modified: last year

@Vaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley, Rise up Lilac Days is almost thornless (99% I would say). On the other hand, Reminiscent Pink is a prickly beast

  • last year

This sounds like an almost perfect Lilac climber! I will wait to hear your report on it's repeat.

  • last year

@Kristine LeGault 8a pnw, one of the things I am most impressed with about Reminiscent Coral is that those huge gorgeous blooms hold for so long and without much fading.

I ordered mine from Home Depot and it has had touches of blackspot, but less so once it recovered from transplanting.

    Dave5bWY thanked Markay MD-Zone 7B
  • last year

Markay, what a perfect bloom! I agree, the blooms last forever. Mine took the place of At Last . It was a pretty rose but the blooms were gone way too fast. The opposite of Reminiscent Coral with those big full blooms that hokd for a long time

  • last year

    @Vaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley, Rise up

Lilac Days has blooms here and there after spring. When I had it in the front, it rebloomed very well even in the hottest days. But since moved to the pergola, I could not keep up with deadheading, watering, etc. It barely gets any care.

This is from today. A few blooms not quite noticeable for such a big plant. The fragrance is still there

But at least it is full of green leaves😼

Love the Reminiscent series, and Rise Up Amberness looks like Bernstein-Rose (Bernstein means amber). Does anyone grow Amberness? Diane

Bernstein-Rose, a small Tantau floribunda and def not a climber.

Rise up Lilac Days has grown out of reach. And it is not exaggerating that it perfumes the yard. I have given up doing any maintenance except for giving fish oil in the spring

Reminiscent Pink continues to please. This year it blooms earlier. Following picture is with Carding Mill at the front

Reminiscent Pink at the back. At the front is Pomponella mixed with Aulaya blooms. I feel RP is such a lovely rose to mingle with other roses

forever a newbie, Love your rise Up Lilac! I wish I had a climber like that.

wow that Rise up Lilac looking good!!

I have seen that Rise Uo Lilac in YT videos and it looks amazing.

wow! How big is Rise up lilac days? I thought it was a short climber?

@forever_a_newbie_VA8, I’m really curious how Rise Up Lilac Days compares to Renae. They look like they share some qualities. Any thoughts?

@Markay MD-Zone 7B, our pergola is 9-10 feet high. So I estimate the plant is over 12 feet (at least)

@jjkOC zone 10a/22, SoCal, I never saw Renae cl rose. But from hmf and other sites, Renae is mostly pink, with more petals? It is also mentioned of strong rose scent. Riseup Lilac Days definitely is lilac or light purple color, and has strong raspberry and citrus fragrance. Of course scent is totally subjective. Anyways just looking at the descriotion, they are quite different roses. The open post of this topic has detailed information as breeding as well

By the way, I just notice in hmf, the height of RLD is adjusted to 10-12 feet

Thanks for the information on Rise Up Lilac Days!

@forever_a_newbie_VA8 - Your Rise Up Lilac Days is huge and impessive! I bet it smells awesome!

@Markay MD-Zone 7B - The color of your Reminiscent Coral is very vibrant. I’d like to grow it but roses grow short in my colder climate with short growing season and so I’m afraid it would be too compact to enjoy.

@Diane Brakefield - I’ve only seen Rise Up Amberness at a garden center and really liked it and was very close to purchasing it but decided to go with Crown Princess Margareta. It does look similar to Bernstein Rose.

Hi all! FFFrom where iiiis everyone getting their Rise Up Lilac? I'm thinking of replaaaacing my Quicksilver with it since it gewinter die-baccckkkkk and could be grown as a shrub. I hate Houzz.

@Vaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley - I originally purchased Rise Up Lilac Days directly from Proven Winners. Sometimes they have sales but generally their prices are quite high and shipping is expensive. There is an online seller at Home Depot and Lowes that had 1 gallon RULD for $29 a week or two ago but is now $37 but shipping is free I believe.

@Vaporvac Z6-OhioRiverValley, I got my plants from greatgardenplants website 2 years ago. I understand it might not be the most reputable vendor and some people had issues.

  • last month

I bought the rise Up Amberness and have been more than pleased with her, nice fragrance and form. Her color became more orange toward the end of the season. She is healthy and makes dreary mornings glow. This will be her first winter and I am firmly in zone 4 so we shall see how it goes.
