We have purchased a home with a 1300 sq ft walkout basement. 2 bedrooms are in the basement. My son has autism and lots of allergies. The whole basement floor is vinyl tiles, I’m assuming from 2010 when the house was built. I’ve gotten conflicting information about if covering the vinyl in engineered hardwood would keep the phthalates, dioxins and other bad things from leaching into the air. Also, if I scrape the floor out, would this release them by damaging the tiles?
