Paul, kudos for keeping it alive in a challenging climate! It sounds like it’s mature enough but lacking the long period of optimal conditions to bloom. You can fool it into thinking spring is longer by starting a grow light on it in March or April each year, gradually adding more time under the light as you get it ready to go outside in the summer. Repot into a larger pot now, too. Switch to a balanced slow-release fertilizer. 9-58-8 is not for flowering trees like plumerias, but annuals like petunias. Osmocote 11-11-11 or Excalibur will give you the long-term health the tree needs to be happy and bloom. Good luck!

Hi I am so lucky to discover Plumeria trees. Six years earlier I grafted two colored plumeria on my white plumeria tree. It looked great. The next year only one of the grafts bloomed along with the white branch. Since then none of the colored branches have bloomed. They all have green foliage. Also no new branches. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Branches only occur just after flowers. Young plants may grow 6-8 inches a year without forming buds. Seedlings are notorious for taking a long time to bloom. I did 2 grafts on one tree, and they took over 2 years to bloom and are skipping this year (apparently).

I don't do a lot of fertilizing, Osmocote or similar added to potting soil and some liquid feed in Spring. All are in pots of at least 5 gallons, except for 2 dwarfs I have a greenhouse for overwintering (unheated) which adds about 2 months to the growing season here and I think that has been a big help. trees which are left outside under my eaves will leaf out in June vs April/May in GHS.

All my plumerias are outside, I live in CA. However this one is in a pot and

the branches haven't grown in size nor have I fertilized.

I will be replanting and fertilizing real soon.

I have red and pink plumerias but they are in a shaded area, so they don't bloom very often either. Maybe some fertilizer will help.
