Insulate and Cover Outdoor AC Pipes.

On the roof of a S Florida condo building, we insulated the pipe with foam insulation and covered the foam with aluminum tape. I thought birds were detracted by shiny surfaces, but, they picked through the tape and through the insulation. In addition to the foam insulation, I need to know if a very thin pvc covering, painted with latex paint, is the answer. Help!

Sounds like the beginning of an Alfred Hitchcock sequel...

You might try a section of 4" flexible drain piping as a protective cover. You can slit it on one side, slip it over the line set and close it with some cable ties. The idea is to leave a gap between the drain pipe and the line set. You can buy a 10 ft. section at one of the big box stores for around $12 +/- Good luck.

Elmer Fudd, did you ever catch that Waskely Wabbit! The other foam insulation has some kind of white coating on it that was done professionally, but the birds picked through that also.
