Is This Condensation?

We had a new front door assembly installed last Friday (entyr door, storm door, and sidelights). Yesterday, on two of four windows in the entry door, I noticed what looked like sticker residue on the between the panes of glass but I see nothing this morning. i did contact the manufacturer and dealer and expect to hear from the salesperson tomorrow.

Is this condensation? If not, then what?

TY

If it went away, yes, most likely condensation of some sort. Did you try to wipe it off (interior or exterior surface)?

If between the glass, keep an eye on it. If its a seal failure it will progressively get worse until it is permanent. It could also be some residual moisture from IGU assembly, in which case it should improve (under apples to apples conditions) as the dessicant in the spacer dries it out.

@HomeSealed Exteriors, LLC, whatever it is, is on the interior between the panes of glass. The photos above were taken Monday. The photos below were taken yesterday/Thursday. How long do I expect this to last if it is condensation?

Do you know if the glass arrives at the door mfr with part # stickers?

In all fairness, the dealer did stop by early yesterday but the images were not apparent while they were here. I sent these photos to the dealer this morning.

I agree the seal is compromised and you should get a replacement .Call the maker of the door and you should have that info somewhere maybe on your bill.

Based on the added info, it definitely sounds like moisture in the glass. There should not have been a sticker ever on the inside surface, but I suppose crazier things have happened.

As I mentioned earlier, it may or may not be a failed seal. Keep an eye on it, how often it appears, under what conditions, and whether its improving or getting worse. If its a seal failure time is not of the essence in getting it replaced, your dealer will likely need all of that info to submit for warranty anyway, and knowing the conditions under which it occurs can help you time a second visit for him if its needed.

The dealer ordered four replacement windows. He thinks the spots are from the suction device used during assembly to move the glass. I'm still leaning toward condenation but what do I know, wink.

Thank you all for the feedback.

Just guessing, but I am thinking that this isn't seal failure, rather as HomeSealed suggested, this may be a case where the moisture was already there when the dual pane glass was manufactured and it was trapped inside the IG unit.

It might be interesting if you lay a straight edge along the glass, preferably corner to corner, to see if the glass surface is flat. I am not sure that it is, I think that it may be slightly concave.

IMO there's a much better than even chance that the glass came from China already assembled and this might be a manufacturing issue right from the factory. If the straight edge check shows that the glass isn't flat then it's not going to get better and needs to be replaced under warranty, but if the glass is flat then I would agree with HomeSealed and give it a little time to see what happens, but if it doesn't go away within a week or so then again it should be a warranty claim.

ODL Glass, I'm told. I will do the straight edge test, though. And keep an eye on the windows.

The dealer has been responsive and this is what has kept him in business for 47 years.

Good to see they are on it. If it doesn't wipe away, as mentioned above, seal failure.

So you may notice this same phenomenom as I do. On all my vehicle's windshields, on certain days of condensation with the outside environment just right, I can see the locations of what were once large stickers/taped papers from the factory. On one of the cars, I can see the assembly plant's 4 suction cup points as well. Those spots appear almost foggy, for lack of a better word. It is not a performance issue or malfunction of the product; not moisture on the surface; can not be cleaned off; it disappears after a while, where it cannot be seen at all then until another day when the conditions are again just right.

Those are not suction cup marks.

3onthertree, try either Sparkle Glass Cleaner (cream, not spray on liquid) or A1 Hardwater Stain Remover to clean suction cup marks from your windshield. Those products are both used in glass factories to remove stubborn stains, such as suction cup marks -- which are more common, but not exclusively so, on glass from China.

We are in south central PA. Spring has sprung and tempereatures are mild-to warm this week.

i dont know what the spots are - just that they dont belong there. Now I'm told I'll receive a call from a mfr rep.

oberon, the windshield phenonenom are not marks. No evidence whatsoever except when certain dewy mornings. Glass cleaned multiple times over many years on multiple cars manufactured from 1970 to 2021, american, german, and elsewhere, so nothing to do with glass manufacturer. Maybe a mechanically applied glass polish might fill/smooth micro potholes (assuming that is the issue), but never bothered as it goes away.

My point of bringing this up with the door lites is I don't think it has anything to do with the airspace seals or condensation inside there.

it is curious that the shape and location are the same.

Ultimately it makes no difference what it is, the only real issue is the warranty claim.

3onthetree, what makes you think that it isn't condensation inside the airspace?

tdemonti, curious if you checked the glass for flatness?

@oberon476, I forgot about that "test" but did this morning Saturday), and nada. it was difficult finding a straight edge to fit . i used a piece of junk mail, ha! it's razor cut and I could cut it to fit. There is no way to know if the textured is flat.
