Miele KM 6375 - wrongly installed

This unit is supposed to be installed as a flush mount but our contractor and fabricator worked together without noticing this requirement and cut our quartz and installed this unit as a proud mount.

Miele states this proud mount installation will void the warranty -we don't have any clue how this could damage and how we can do something to prevent it. I don't think we have a choice to remove the countertop, buy a new countertop and then cut to make this a flush mount - that will never be cost effective.

Any suggestions from this wonderful community? I will ask our appliance store if they can provide a 6370 (which is a proud mount) and take our existing one (probably with a 20% restocking fee). I am not sure the cut they made now will support 6370 though.

Can we use some sealant around the edges? Can we have the option to buy a third party trim kit around the 6375? Is there any way we can protect the 6375 edges?

Any help is highly appreciated

"I will ask our appliance store if they can provide a 6370...I am not sure the cut they made now will support 6370 though."

The 6375 and 6370 require different cutout sizes and the 6370 is smaller.

The Frigidaire FFIC3626TB, Frigidaire FGIC3666TBor Electrolux ECCI3668AS would fit in the 6375 cutout per their spec sheets.

I think your contractor needs to work it out with your fabricator. Perhaps the quartz can be recut. Perhaps you need a new chunk of quartz. You should not be paying for this mistake. Be kind and understanding, but this isn't your mistake is it?

It looks like a ledge needs to be cut in the stone for a flush installation. That's more difficult on site than with the equipment the fabricator has in his shop. Maybe that's why they took the easier route. I'd remove the unit and measure the cutout. It has to be smaller than the shallow cut dimensions for flush mount. That's good. The shallow cut for a flush install can likely still be made. Then you'll have a ledge in the counter. It may not be as wide as the installation instructions recommend. That could still be ok. It depends on how big it is. The installation instructions for a wood counter require slats to support the unit. You may be able to use your cabinet sides and wood slats to add support if the ledge size seems inadequate. Like installing a undermount sink.

    Hi, Kerala,

The fabricator we use insists that sinks, faucets, dishwashers, cooktops, etc. be on site when they template for the tops to avoid the type of issue you have.

Whether the fabricator removes the top and reworks it in the shop or is able to modify it in place, they should correct the error at no cost to you.

Right. If the hole in the countertop is 35" x 19-5/16" as shown on page 5 of the spec sheet, then the fabricator can add the 1/4"-deep, 1/2"-wide cut all the way around and the cooktop will sit flush in the countertop.

    Kerala:

You need to ascertain whether or not your engineered stone manufacturer even allows flush cooktop installations as your appliance manufacturer instructs you on page 63.

Furthermore, no engineered stone manufacturer allows the 90* corners in cutouts that your cooktop has. Sure, you can put a 3/8" radius in each corner, but I don't think that's the look you want in order to keep a warranty.

Thank you all. Talked to my contractor and he agreed to work with the fabricator to fix the issue. All your comments helped to improve my knowledge and added depth to my arguments 😳🙏

    Follow up.

    6370 (proud mount) cutout requirements - 34 1/2” (876 mm) W x 20 3/8” (518 mm) D

    6375 (flush mount) cutout requirements - 35” (889 mm) W x 19 5/16” (490 mm) D

    Current Cut by contractor/fabricator - 34.5 x 19.4

Looks like fabricator can make the current width of 19.4 with a single straight cut at our home to make it 20 3/8" required by the proud mount.

My appliances store agreed to exchange 6370 with my 6375.

Exchange happens tomorrow. I will update when all is fit and working!

Thank you for all helping out.

@Joseph Corlett, LLC @Charles Ross Homes

    Thanks for the clarifications.

My cabinet builder has warned me of appliance specs (especially refer wood panels) changing from order to delivery and won't build them until refer is onsite (except sub zero), and I know its common that some fixtures don't match templates ( a few decades redoing them).

Also regarding the counter materials.... would love to know what counter material the manufacturer used for photos which we know doesn't make it right.

Update: Successfully installed 6370 after a 1 inch cut by the fabricator. Thank you all for your help!
